I've researched on this processor and it's possible to unlock the two extra cores. However, the board you need must support ACC
(Advanced Clock Calibration) in the BIOS. The northbridge must be 790GX chipset, and a southbridge of SB750.
Now the problem is this; I recently bought a ECS A790GXM-AD3 and i haven't tested it. I've read some blogs that it doesn't have ACC and that it's not possible. but when I checked the ECS website it said:
"To meet hardcore overclockers’ requirements, the latest exclusive BIOS utility, M.I.B. II, is included to provide various detailed tweaking options. Paired with AMD SB750 south bridge controller supporting the function of ACC (Advanced Clock Calibration), ECS A790GXM-AD3 allows users to push the overall system performance to another higher scale."
So, which is which guys? Does it have ACC support or not. Thx.
If it does support the ACC then I'm buying the AMD PHENOM II X2 550BE and i'll test if it really can unlock. Hopefully the extra two cores are not defective.
