A few years down the line they have become nothing more than the Trapos we thought they would supplant. Same old, same old.

In Philippine politics and perhaps everywhere else, people do not change the system. The system changes them.

It's not like I'm losing hope for the Philippines. As far as I'm concerned the quality of our politics and government is not the be-all and end-all of our daily lives. There's still plenty of latitude to make our lives, and the lives of others, better. Politics doesn't even come into the picture anywhere. In our endeavors, we sometimes succeed, we sometimes fail. Sometimes we pick ourselves up again. Where does politics come in there? Only very rarely. In most anything we do, where we succeed we only have ourselves to congratulate. Where we fail, we only have ourselves to blame. Where and how we pick ourselves up again is up to us.

For me therefore, politics is just background noise. There's no point in all this hand-wringing about how screwed up our politics is. We can only change things in that department by casting our votes. The pace of change, if any, will be generational.

I can't wait that long, nor should I care to. What counts in the here and now is that I do my best in my business or profession, be the best husband to my wife, the best father to my child and in everything I do, do right by me. Those are the most important things.
Tarmac, very interesting thoughts, enjoyed reading your view on politics and life.

You're a big inspiration. how i wish the majority thinks like you. For now, our major refuge is prayer.. let's pray na ang mga makadaog rung umaabot mu serbisyo unta ug tarong. they will live for what they are rightfully called as public servants...

^^i disagree w/ you sir. prayer is not enough. prayers should be coupled with our actions...

once a prof in college told us that just because this is how we see things does not mean thats how most of the filipino people outside the campus thinks. just today i talked to someone who came from the south of cebu, because the lection is near or we just dont have anything to talk about other than that. she said its nice to vote in the province, you get paid for your vote.. when asked who she will vote.. she answered that will depend on who will the mayor support...

her logic is: its just enough that you get paid for your vote... whoever wins will just be as corrupt as the other who did not pay...

and i wonder how many filipinos outside this forum thinks the way she does? how many filipinos are willing to exchange their vote for as much as 100 pesos?

they said history vindicates... looking back at our history.. can we say the same...

truth be told im having a hard time accepting the past politicians were more noble than todays politicians..

it was easier to deceive people then.. communication was slow... transparency is the government is not among the priorities...

why do politicians run in the past anyway?

its not actually to protect the people or to advance their interest...

this one i learned from somewhere...

its to protect one's family interest...

If your asking about both people I know , the answer is yes, they do want change and they have spent their lives working to build a prosperous, safe City, Country. One who was very close to me passed away na, he has been in Politics for over 30 years. The other one has made significant change in Davao.
