why not? naa naman desalination plant sa SRP, used during the time of construction of the SRP pa by the JApanese.
You're forgetting the simple fact that desalination is a very expensive process. Multi-stage flash distillation requires heating, which either uses petroleum or coal. With the energy crisis we're currently experiencing, I doubt that it'll be an affordable (or green) process.
If we ever get to desalination, watch water prices go up.

desalinization is expensive....and we have polluted waters... unlike the places you mentioned above...
not really good for a city that has not paid SRP yet...
