Years ago, a classmate of mine talked about Gibran and his famous "The Prophet".

I got a copy of the book and read, and reread it. THe poetry, amazed me. Some of the lines moved me.

At the end of my readings, I could not help but notice this line:

"A little while, a moment of rest upon the wind, and another woman shall bear me."

    It contradicts my religious convictions.

@ Gwyn, I don't think it's OT coz I started with Gibran and my appreciation of his work. But the book has its religious flavour, even the title itself.

But the topic about religion is in another thread and for me to bring that here is OT.

    Here are some few lines:

"It was but yesterday we met in a dream...
And if our hands should meet again in another dream, we shall build another tower in the sky"

"Much of your pain is self-chosen"

"Your daily life is your temple and your religion"

"Our God, who art our winged self, it is thy will in us that willeth...."

OT: @Gwyn, I am also following the religion thread and the other related threads. At times, I am annoyed. But I see it as an opportunity to know the other sides of it.

I thought you refered to my post as OT kay gi quote man gud nimo. Anyway, back to Gibran. Most of his statements are universal, but there are some that are incompatible with Christianity. This is understandable coz he is not one.

"Work is love made visible. And if you cannot work with love but only with distate, it is better that you should leave your work and sit at the gate of the temple and take alms of those who work with joy"

"And if you would know God be not therefore a solver of riddles"

I see.. Gibran wasn't Christian? But I knew that he had a teacher priest, could that somehow mean he was a Christian in some point of his life?

I know that many of his lines are incompatible with Christianity but oddly enough, there are lines that support many Christian ideas.. Either way it's really puzzling what he intended to convey on the religious side of things..

he had a priest for a friend? there's a part of the book about Religion. "And an old priest said, Speak to us of Religion" maybe his friend was his inspiration on that part of the book. hehe.

You're daily life is your temple and your religion.

i think that at the end of the day, whichever church we come from , it is the fashion in which we choose to exist among one another that is the determining factor.

after all.. (to quote the book)

Is not religion all deeds and all reflection,

Who can seperate his faith from his actions, or his belief from his occupations?
    Who can spread his hours before him, saying, "this for God and this for myself;
This for my soul and this other for my body"?

blast me.. the rest i don't understand. but this one catched my attention -

And if you would know God, be not therefore a solver of riddles.

what does it mean? that we delight in solving mysteries too much that we miss seeing things more real?

    Nezumix got me thinking

if a person gave you bread when you were hungry and he was a Muslim, what would you say? you certainly would not say he was a christian at that point in time. the value of giving is not inherent in christianity alone. even trees give of their fruits (Gibran inspired) and they don't have a religion (maybe not that we know of ).
