Default New router not working very well. Need help.

Our old router broke and Belkin gave us a replacement (lifetime warranty ).

We got it set up, but our internet connection doesn't work well.

I checked if it isn't the ISP by connecting directly via the modem, and it is working fine.
It's not the signal either, all our laptops have ~90-100% signals.

I can ping google.com or any other domain in the cmdline, but even when it is pinging fine, I can't surf.

It just times out a lot.

I've tried using Google DNS, it didn't help.

    What could be causing this?

So you mean to say you cannot browse any website using the wireless router? If that's the case then most probably belkin gave you a defective REPLACEMENT router. Can you give more detail on the problem. When it starts? or ends?

    it's a DNS issue.
put your ISP's DNS IP Address in your router.
    Primary DNS
    Secondary DNS

    nope i take that back.
it's not DNS since you can ping google.com
    must be browser related.
try another browser like Firefox or Opera.
and try disabling your firewall first.
    also disable the router's firewall.
    could be blocking port 80.

known issue by me. a busted chip used for routing the data in router or just firmware corrupted.

try to update your firmware or instead use DD-wrt this firmware update used for high technical skills only.

you can have more controls through webui or by telneting. sample's you can boost your signal, control the flow of bandwidth by IP's or by ports.

if your vista install telnet first. chow!

look for your router if your router support it.

ops sayup ku sabot sa imo. maka ping man diay ka. hehe. piro pwede rapud ni nimo gamiton.

if your using norton antivirus and you decided to uninstall your norton try using there software the norton removal kit. limot ku sa link ikaw na pangita.

you should not turn off the firewall of the router for no reason, it's your only protection against attackes from the outside world. Turning that off means your are vulnerable for attacks, don't be surprise if you get a lot of viruses or possibly open for hacking.

    just my two cents.

what else do you suggest? turning it on makes it unusable.. turning it off makes me vulnerable.

when i asked to disable the firewall i was merely trying to narrow down the issue. now we know that it is the firewall that's the culprit, you need to set it up properly so u can turn it back on and surf the web. not recommended surfing the internet without a firewall.
even if ur router's firewall is off but ur desktop (WinXP/Vista/ETC) firewall is on, ur still safe, relatively speaking.

how do I configure the router's firewall? the only option in the router's config GUI is enable/disable firewall.
Yeah the firewalls are on on my computers and I have AV's installed.
