how bout this WDDM thingy..will NVIDIA release a new graphics driver that can make my 6600GT compatible with Vista's AERO feature?..or we'll be force to buy WDDM compatible cards? pfft

@Earlz: of course, to each his own.. I was only thinking that this kind of standard will make it hard for business to upgrade to Vista and their other apps. For example, of the 16 computers in our office, only 2 is running Windows XP, 6 running Windows 2000, and the rest running the now unsupported Windows 98. One reason why we didn't upgrade to Vista was because of the high costs and the system requirements, most of our PCs only have 64 to 128MB and for sure it'll slow to a crawl in these specs.

So if we were to upgrade to Vista and those standards it would be difficult for many businesses out there to migrate. Not only will they tend to the costs of upgrading to Vista OS but also to the hardware. This might be some kind of difficult to decision to many businesses, whether to upgrade once and for all or be left behind. SO mao na, lisod gyud na ang i-abot ang 2GB na standard + video card in late 2007. And I don't think paspas mo fall ang RAM prices but I was hoping it would fall fast so that the moment it hits a sweet spot, upgrade na dayon mi..

Sorry, I wasn't so picky with my words, I was just shocked to see a 2GB becoming standard seeing how it could affect many businesses out there including ours.

As a company you do not jump into Vista w/o waiting for it to mature for atleast 6~8 months, i migrated to windows XP my self 2 weeks after SP1 came out. Also no one is forcing you or companies that its a must to have Windows Vista, even until now companies prefer Windows2000 server over any flavor of windows XP, unless vista can provide more than Windows2000 server then companies using Win2kserver will migrate to vista or just go with linux instead. as for ram prices its been dropping really fast lately and to a price where it becomes stagnant dont expect 1gb to become 2k each tho even with the release of DDR2 theres a point where prices can reach only that low, but for the harddrive capacity for you spending 5,000 on a harddrive now nets you 250gb i assure you Q1 of 2008, a 5k buget for a harddrive nets you atleast 500~650gb of space, since the avalability of perpendicular recording you can now get a 750gb hd for just $500 you'v also said about videocards, believe it or nor come 2008 videocards like X800 or 6800 will have a entry level counter part that would roughly cost 1/4 the current price and have an exactly the same performance.

bottom line is, no one is forcing you or me to upgrade. Technology evolves so just live with it and go with the flow

What do those computers do in your office? im guessing just for documents ? then windows 98se will be fine for it, unless you want to spend more on legit OS and not to mention an expensive cost for MS office unless ofcourse your using bootleg

also you said reason why you didnt upgrade to vista was of the high cost...

reality check vista is not yet released and is due to Q4 2007 or Q1 2008, Vista will not and cannot affect your business as theres no software that can help your busines be vista exclusive only.

As a home user, I like Vista. Pero as SysAd(kuno ), grabe!
I dont hate Vista but I hate Microsoft. Actually ang ilang schemes.

You see when you buy this new OS you'll have to upgrade your PC. Although naa ko choice not to buy but hey actually I have no choice kay sooner or later MS based applications will not run under win2k. the same sa nahitabo sa win98 and winnt. nowadays, naay mga apps nga dotnet 1.1+ above ang requirements. and next ang ms office. sa ms office i have no choice but to buy 2003 kay our clients and consultants (local and abroad) are using office 2003. naay features sa excel and powerpoint nga dili compatible. naay viewer but you can edit so you cant send back XLS and PPT files to your clients and consultants.

and if you're the sysad, it's a pain in the head kung unsaon nmo pagpasabot sa imong managers/owners. they hate the idea nga we have to upgrade in three years time. wala pa na labot sa mga maguba na parts like hard disk, mouse, keyboard & etc.

vista has really improved on security and graphics. murag linux(security) and graphics(mac) combined. it's great but i dont think workers really need that. i hope there will be a support for XP and win 2003 until 2010. hehe. kanang dili nko mo buy ug OS bahala ug other apps lang. new OS new hardware man gud. ok lang change defective parts.

some guy here sa forum said that if you hate MS then dont use their products. what a crazy thought. if sysads and owners lang pabut-on, of course sa free ko - linux, open office and other open source. but apparently dili in-ana ka user friendly ang naa sa open source not to mention nga mo kalit lang ug hang basta under windows. ang gimp, quanta & open office kay layo ra kaau sa photoshop/corel, dreamweaver & flash and ms office. i've introduced these products sa among users and they hate it. firefox ra jud ang naa appreciate. also, pila man ka accounting, erp, mrp, video/audio editing tools ang nindot sa linux beh kanang package ha or ready made.
