best guard dog? -> gsd
survival dog? -> gsd
climate and terrain? -> gsd, have seen pits(non perf) doing long walks gasping for air na compared to gsd na its like they just walked 1 km.
sense? -> trainability you mean? -> gsd
which is the best? -> this two dog breeds are just too far to compare of.
im a gsd enthusiast; im obviously biased on this question.

survival?if its the working line gsd i would agree,but with moderate drives,exagerrated angulations of the showline GSD..down to its sloping croup?i doubt if it could last a day or two in a natural habitat which has other predators & fast moving prey as well,its looks are not even natural
but same as you,its always been the GSD...guard dog,all around working dog...no comparison but only the working line,i supposed
