I just would like to share this one if OK:

The Remarkable but Disastrous Story of Mosquitofish (Introduced Species) in the Philippines

-kaila man mo anang feeder fish nga naa sa manalili no? kanang sige na'to makuha sa river trekking..gitawag sometimes og wild guppy..

    History of Introduction:
It was introduced to us by the Americans to control Malaria here.

"Steinhart Aquarium and an exponent of the use of Gambusia affinis for mosquito control, had previously reported on its use in Hawaii and the Philippines and its ability to maintain itself in the presence of voracious species such as the introduced largemouth bass (Seale 1917).

Our paper has mentioned Seale's discussion of Gambusia in Hawaii, and Herre (1959) partially corroborated both Jordan (1926) and Seale (1917). Herre (1959) stated that Jordan recommended that Seale go to Texas to obtain mosquito-eating fishes for Hawaii, and that Seale did indeed take Gambusia to Hawaii and the Philippines. During his stay in the Philippines from 1907 to about 1917, Seale continued his distribution of Gambusia, and during the next two decades it was widely distributed throughout the world. "

    Present Condition of Disaster:
Gambusia has harmed native fish populations in many ways. By consuming algae-eating zooplankton, they increase the chances of algae blooms in the water, reducing the water quality. They are very aggressive, and tend to attack other fish and nip their fins, leading to infection or death. Studies have shown that the purple spotted gudgeon fish population has declined as a result of high densities of mosquitofish. They have also negatively impacted populations of beetles, backswimmers, rotifers, red finned blue eye, Edgbast goby, crustaceans and mollusks, to name a few.

    As observed in one paper:

"Rather than reducing the number of wrigglers, in many areas the Mosquito Fish have greatly reduced the number of native fish which are more effective than them in controlling Mosquitoes. Their large scale introduction into other areas has failed to control Mosquitoes, but has done enormous damage to the ecosystems of these areas."

    Moral:
..So if you're wondering why daghan kaayo ni sila ang wala na ta'y makit-an lain nga mga endemic na species of fish sa ato rivers..mao ni ang reason..

Actually, what i was trying to say is that numerous native freshwater fish in the Philippines perished due to the introduction of this species.. some of those fish were never even identified before they became extinct..

exactlly, this damn fish causes more harm than good in the ecosystem, although nag enjoy ta sa iyang
"feeder" qualities, still ni puli sila sa mga native fishes n2 sa food chain. Para daw ni siya sa eradication sa disease spreading of mosquitoes, pero asa bah? wah jud~ hope the government finds a solution to this invasion of foreign species.
