yeah, at least now we'll be forced to upgrade to 1GB RAM.. we always wanted to upgrade but no wawarts..
and 15GB is quite big for me.. our PC is only 80GB.. that's gonna take up almost 1/4 of our our space... and that's just the OS

late 2007 by that time 2GB ram is standard and 500gb of space is used on a 29,000 pc

No one ask you to agree with it, its technological evolution. 1GB has been the industry standard since Q4 2005

@Earlz: of course, to each his own.. I was only thinking that this kind of standard will make it hard for business to upgrade to Vista and their other apps. For example, of the 16 computers in our office, only 2 is running Windows XP, 6 running Windows 2000, and the rest running the now unsupported Windows 98. One reason why we didn't upgrade to Vista was because of the high costs and the system requirements, most of our PCs only have 64 to 128MB and for sure it'll slow to a crawl in these specs.

So if we were to upgrade to Vista and those standards it would be difficult for many businesses out there to migrate. Not only will they tend to the costs of upgrading to Vista OS but also to the hardware. This might be some kind of difficult to decision to many businesses, whether to upgrade once and for all or be left behind. SO mao na, lisod gyud na ang i-abot ang 2GB na standard + video card in late 2007. And I don't think paspas mo fall ang RAM prices but I was hoping it would fall fast so that the moment it hits a sweet spot, upgrade na dayon mi..

Sorry, I wasn't so picky with my words, I was just shocked to see a 2GB becoming standard seeing how it could affect many businesses out there including ours.

No one is forcing you (or other companies out there) to upgrade right away anyway when Vista comes out... if your hardware is not up to scratch. With any new Microsoft OS release, a hardware upgrade can only be done to a certain degree. In most cases, it may just be uneconomical to do it (cost of time, effort, moneywise, or systems just too old), so you might be better off investing in some new machines when Vista comes out. You usually save on the OEM liceses pa or purchase it thru Volume Licensing. Besides, your Windows 2000 and XP machines today are still fine to do your daily business needs. Sure Vista may a have a few new features and enhanced security up its sleeves but there's no need for you to feel left out just becoz your OS is a generation older.

A smart admin for a company wouldn't just jump in an convince his manager to invest and deploy the latest OS from MS right away. That's a dumb move. Most IT managers would wait til the dust settles in and would also wait for a first Service Pack release before they would actually deploy a new OS to their company's PCs.

And yes I do believe 2GB of RAM (if not more) will be a standard soon for a full on multimedia system. That's not surprising anymore considering most games these days now require 1GB anyway. However, expect to see systems still with 512MB and 1GB RAM as well to cater the entry-level and mid-range market. We have to move on bro, if it's not 2007, it will eventually happen somehow.

Almost all Windows Vista editions will be offered in both x86 (32-bit) and x64 (64-bit) versions. Microsoft expects to transition its client product lines almost completely to x64 after the release of Windows Vista.

how bout this WDDM thingy..will NVIDIA release a new graphics driver that can make my 6600GT compatible with Vista's AERO feature?..or we'll be force to buy WDDM compatible cards? pfft
