ive got this feeling that end of humanity will happen way soon than end of earth...

we humans have the greatest tendency to kill ourselves... thru abuse of our resources like global warming, overpopulation, and wars..

end of humanity will be due to evolution, we wont be humanlike for long, basin padulong ta baboy.. already technology had great effects to our psyche, our senses arent as sharp as before... maybe ato intelligence mo ubos pud..

k ra nako mag-end na ang world., hopefully im already dead by that time so i wont have to suffer.. hehehehehehe

this videos are the summary of past movies that is somehow more like a basis on how the world will end.

    YouTube - '2012' Trailer HD
YouTube - 2012 VFX Yellowstone Eruption Clip
Seriously though, from the movie 2012, the world didn't end but instead reshaped and recycled because of climate change and the participation of our SUN that is somehow triggered geological, volcanic and atmospheric disruption.
The question is, are any of this events will "ever" happen? if so, are we just waiting "when" will it happen? coz, to my point of view, this things are unstoppable.

" i think we're just like a candle burning at both ends "

So when the year 2012 comes around there's a good possibility that we could just fizzle out.

I hope it all just crumbles and we can all just be uncivilized beast.

There will be a solar maximum on 2012 confirmed by NASA...
anyway, solar maximum is the period of greatest solar activity in the solar cycle of the sun.

The Yellowstone super volcano is also a threat... and also a comet...

The solar maximum won't do a lot of impact even if the CME hits earth. I've read somewhere that the Solar Maximum this 2013 (note, not 2012) is not that strong, in fact weaker than the previous Solar Maximum (I think that was last 2001).

Yellowstone, if ranked in my TEOTWAWKI scale, is the topmost and the most feared. The world won't end, people will only starve to death, rabid climate change around the world and the US economy will collapse. Like what liber said, the world becomes a candle that burns in both ends when Yellowstone erupts. Extinction won't happen in an instant, it will take time.

Comet, hmm not sure about that. Just some nibiru (planet x)biblical scare.

solar maximum is an 11-year cycle so the next one will be on 2012. and according sa mga akong nabasahan... the coming one will be one of the most intense solar maximum contrary to what you said.

weaker? i wonder asa gikan ana...

    from the nasa website itself:
"It takes about 40 years for the belt to complete one loop," says Hathaway. The speed varies "anywhere from a 50-year pace (slow) to a 30-year pace (fast)."

When the belt is turning "fast," it means that lots of magnetic fields are being swept up, and that a future sunspot cycle is going to be intense. This is a basis for forecasting: "The belt was turning fast in 1986-1996," says Hathaway. "Old magnetic fields swept up then should re-appear as big sunspots in 2010-2011."

I can't remember where I got that weaker part. AFAIK, it was mentioned when the 2011-2012 year was corrected to 2013 or maybe I read it wrong. Anyways for the sake of a conversation...

Here's a similar reference though. Only that they admitted the models could be flawed: Solar Cycle Prediction: “None of Our Models Were Totally Correct” | Astroengine.com
“If our prediction is correct, Solar Cycle 24 will have a peak sunspot number of 90, the lowest of any cycle since 1928 when Solar Cycle 16 peaked at 78,” says Doug Biesecker of the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center.

Although this may be considered to be a “weak” solar maximum, the Sun still has the potential to generate some impressive flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs). Although I doubt we’ll see the record-breaking flares we saw in 2003 (pictured top), we might be hit by some impressive solar storms and auroral activity will certainly increase in Polar Regions. But just because the Sun will be more active, it doesn’t mean we will be struck by any big CMEs; space is a big place, we’d be (un)lucky to be staring directly down the solar flare barrel. Read more: Solar Cycle Prediction: “None of Our Models Were Totally Correct” | Astroengine.com
There's nothing to worry about Solar Maximums especially on Doomsday cases. CME aren't gigantic flamethrowers that anything that comes contact to it, burns down like a burning house(assuming Earth is the target). They're more like EMP+Radiation Guns that shoot on a straight line. Like what you said, a solar maximum is a 11-year cycle. Mankind existed for more than 2 millenniums yet we're not yet exterminated by any CMEs. But because of today's generation coupled with our dependencies on technology, a CME, if we're hit, might just ruin that dependency on technology.

That's based on my own understanding. Anyone here who has a better explanation can step up and expand

Or you can watch Discovery Channel's "Perfect Disaster", preferably the New York Solar Storm. To me it pretty well summed the worst case scenarios of what will happen if a CME hits us.
