I started with JRPGs but now I prefer it's western counterpart mainly for the art design and type of storytelling.

japanese rpgs was my thing back then, even though most of em was turn-based. but nowadays im into western rpgs. particularly those action or fps type of rpgs. *cough* s.t.a.l.k.e.r. *cough*

I am greatly enjoying Mass Effect 2. From what I have seen, I must say that JRPG developers should learn from BioWare.

As far as sci-fi RPGs go, Star Wars: KOTOR, Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 are the best - Mass Effect 2 on top.
To say Mass Effect 2 trumps the recent Star Wars trilogy is an understatement (sorry, George); quite simply, ME2 provides one the best science fiction experiences out there, and raises the bar not just for gaming, but for the art of interactive storytelling.

By comparison, Star Ocean games are shallow takes on the sci-fi genre.
Take for example last year's Star Ocean: The Last Hope...that game felt like bad anime pretending to be a sci-fi epic.

I have to agree with IGN on this...Star Wars: KOTOR (developed by BioWare) is both the best RPG and best video game overall for the year 2003.
Second Opinions: Mass Effect 2 - Xbox 360 feature - at IGN
With the strong positive reaction to Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect 2, I must say that BioWare is the best RPG developer today.
