Default Teleconverter Lenses, I need help and advice

Mga masters of the Photography field. A young padawan seeks help.

I've been looking at teleconverters in the hopes of using it on my 90-300mm f/4.5-5.6 non-IS USM II. And as some might guess it is for stalking birds. No not the ones in the minds of those with greener pastures but those birds that hide away in forests and fly upon excitement and surprise. Still please keep this thread.. well, ermm innocent.

I love birds, and I feel limited with my 300 mm. I was initially discouraged with the teleconverters sold at 15K since it's way beyond my monetary limits. So now I come upon this product offered by a friend.

Products - Tele lens - Changchun Richen Optronics Co., Ltd.

    Questions:
Any of you familiar with this?
Can someone tell me more about teleconverters?
Do you really NEED an f/#L lens to enjoy the power of a teleconverter?
How does the magnification work? It says at 2.0X so does that mean my telephoto lens will be 600mm?

    Thanks in advance mga masters

everything is multiplied by 2..... focal length of 300 goes 600.... and the tricky part: your opening will become double so that means 11.2 on your 5.6... now thats dark and you need all the help of sunlight...

I would suggest try to borrow telecons from your friends and test it, you might end up not using it

woah. I see. hmmm.. I'm considering that it might be good with the open field birds under strong lighting but disadvantageous when it comes to forest birds.. hmmmm.. Yeah, I think I might wanna test it. Thanks for the advice Recon25!

    Mga masters, keep it coming.

    question sad ko...
Kani cyang extender? same effect rani sa converter?

mu multiply sad both ang focal length & Aperture or di ma affected ang aperture?

At f11.0, I don't think your lens would autofocus anymore unless you are using 1D series cameras. Usually limit for AF is at f8.0

Ahhhh so the aperture is jeopardized but the possibility of shooting a sharp image is still there? Let's say with a tripod

one important note: the higher the telecons, the softer your image will be... and better get the orig, not a third party
