    New papal nuncio arrives tomorrow

NEWLY appointed Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Fernando Filoni will arrive in Manila tomorrow, Monsignor Jain Mendez, charge d’affaires of the Apostolic Nunciature said yesterday.

Born in Italy on April 16, 1946, Filoni was ordained a priest at 24 and bishop at 54.

He holds a doctorate in Philosophy and Canon Law and is fluent in English, Spanish, French and Portuguese.

He joined the Diplomatic Services of the Holy See at 36. He served in the Apostolic Nunciatures of Sri Lanka (1982-1983), Iran (1983-1985), Brazil (1989-1992) and at the Secretariat of State (1985-1989).

He worked at the Apostolic Nunciature on Taft avenue from 1992 until 2001.

"His ten years of experience in this country will have made him intimately conversant both with the agonizing problems and the hopes and dreams of the Filipinos," Mendez said.

Filoni replaced Archbishop Antonio Franco, 69, who was transferred by Pope Benedict XVI as apostolic nuncio to Israel and Cyprus last January after serving six years in Manila. – Czeriza Valencia

..sakto ra jud ni enroll ko sa pop corn club kay morag nag ka bati na ang discussion....puro mga maayong laki....walay chance to learn and grow kay puro tig-a ug kasing2...and mora na nuon ug mag keep score kinsa naka draw sa last blood...

brothers...do you really think you are making your God happy with how you are handling yourselves? why can we not have a discussion ...sharing our faith and admitting weaknesses (kay sige man jud mo agree tanan nga di perfect)...instead of nit picking on each others' post and proving who knows better?

ako i am catholic...but i am also aware of my religion's strengths and weaknesses....and besides i really do not think it matters much which religion you belong to....what matters most is your personal relationship with God.....ako lang na ha...awayon gani ko ninyo labayon jud ta mo usa ka balde nga popcorn!! (apil balde)

dili na kinahanglan ug religion uy. just imagine a muslim soldier who has done bad things all his life dying in the battlefield of afghanistan. if he faithfully "accepts" the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior and repents of his sins, kung mamatay na siya after a few seconds, dili diay siya ma langit kay wala siya magpa member sa Greenhills Christian Fellowship or Roman Catholicism or Dating Daan? or wala siya sigi ug binut-an while he was still alive? or how about one of the thieves crucified with JC? how did he get saved? Did he get saved because Christ told him that he will be with Him in paradise?

well, this is what i personally believe:

There is no need to add works to faith to be saved because faith is what produces works. The kind of works done out of love and no longer of human effort.

In 1302 Pope Boniface VIII wrote the following in "Unum Sanctum:"

"That there is one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church we are compelled by faith to believe and hold, and we firmly believe in her and sincerely confess her, outside of whom there is neither salvation nor remission of sins…. In her there is 'one Lord, one faith, one baptism'" (Ephesians 4:5) (no. 1).

It appears that the Church is saying that only Catholics can go to heaven or that Catholics are better than everyone else. However, neither view would be correct.

The Church is simply acknowledging the fact that Jesus formulated one plan of salvation. If that is true, then it follows that all other plans are false. The Church is merely declaring that she believes her teachings to be true. Certainly that should be expected of any religion. After all, if you didn't believe that your teachings were true, why would you believe them?

But if only the Catholic Church has the complete plan of salvation, how would it be possible for a non-Catholic to get to heaven?

Vatican Council II addressed this point in its "Dogmatic Constitution on the Church (Lumen Gentium),"

"Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the Gospel of Christ or His Church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart, and, moved by grace, try in their actions to do His will as they know it through the dictates of their conscience – those too may achieve eternal salvation" (no. 16).

In short, those who are truly unaware of what God requires of them are not held responsible; rather they are judged by what they did with the truth they had.

@Gwynhuever: I think you have the best post on this thread yet when you say: brothers...do you really think you are making your God happy with how you are handling yourselves? why can we not have a discussion ...sharing our faith and admitting weaknesses (kay sige man jud mo agree tanan nga di perfect)...instead of nit picking on each others' post and proving who knows better?

    you are totally correct.

@mannyamador, mosimos, bcasabee: bros, it seems that we all have our different ways of interpreting things, so we may just as well leave it at that... honestly, i've been racking my brain the past few days on how to convince you that the Catholic Church is flawed and all that, and in the process I may have been hurting you and your faith... for that i am sorry, and i am sure that if you guys all have it in your heart to love God as much as you defend your faith, then you will all end up in heaven even without human intercession...Â* as much as i have posted madly in this thread, i must say that i have also learned a lot from your posts, and for that i must thank you...Â*

Aw kung kung kana nga pangutana bro nga "do we need religion or church to be saved?" Lahi na pud na nga lalis......hehehehehe..............para specific........let me rephrase the question para we will be on the same page.........."do we need a church to be saved"........ang tubag is.....mura ug dili man siguro bro.............gi base lang nako sa sports bro.........its like asking "do we need to join a biking club in order to go mountain biking".........the answer is no......di ba? Pero mas maayo kung mo apil ka ug biking club kay alegre unya dili boring tapos along the way tudloan ka sa mga experience bikers on how to manuever around obstacles, kung ma flattan ka ug ligid pwede ka kapangayo ug tabang, etc etc.....ok ra nga analogy bro?

Pero ok ra man ang mo criticize ta............kung ang intention lang is to straightened someone's crooked ways.......pero kung ang intention is degrade someone to lead to his downfull.........lahi na na nga istorya bro..........
