.. upon reading the entire thread, you can actually differentiate the "true musicians" from the " hitching the band wagon". Citing wikipedia as source is a truly laughable matter, it points out that there's no conviction on their part, well, they really can't comprehend the true essence of the "expression of music" since they're not actually musicians.

.. and trying to correct people that we are talking about HEAVY METAL not HARD ROCK nor DEATH METAL is simply showing their ignorance on music. It's the fans and the corporate bigshots that's giving names to all these sub-genres... from EMO to SCREMO.. to all that whatnot.

.. and this issue of heavy metal = satanism is really old, it's from the time of KISS and Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. People from those days are into the easy listening of The Beatles, Elvis, Rolling Stones... and when Black Sabbath and Led Zep and Kiss came into the music scene with their hard guitars and crazy lyrics, people were shocked and immedietly brand them as satan worshipers. It's from ignorance and hypocrisy that's the source of this issue. People then started to backmask all those records, from the iconic Stairway to Heaven... to Hotel California.. to Another One Bites the Dust ... of course, if you reverse the record, it will sound like a guttural ritual from hell.

.. but if you compare the bands and music and HEAVY METAL of those days ( 1970's birth of heavy metal ) to today's, you can say that today is "Trash", literally trash, all they do today is scream, the quality of music is very low today. But just listen to StairWay to Heaven or even Paranoid of Black Sabbath and you'll know that those guys of old are the foundations of heavy metal.

Have you composed your own music ?? Music has been with me since I was very little, let's just say, music is my life, all the facets of music. I don't merely listen to music, i understand it. Music is my religion so to speak. From high school to college I had a band, a heavy metal band, we covered songs and made our own music. Sadly, after i graduated from college, my music life has been on the listening-side only coz my band mates are busy with their private lives too.

.. but to answer your question. There are people who are just good composers and there are people who are just singers and there are people who are both. Let's just talk on popular music and contemporary music, ok ?? Like Diane Warren, she is a damn good composer, but sadly for her, her vocal chords aint that good. Celine Dion is 80% just a singer, if you look at most of her records, her songs are made by other composers. But there are people who are damn lucky, those that can compose and yet can sing. Like Steve Perry, Steve Lukather, Barbra Streisand, Kenny Loggins, Bryan Adams, James Hetfield.... and to answer which is better the answer is neither. In the world of the instrumental music, you are loaded with composers, very damn good composers. While the JUST SINGERS ( people who can only sing ) are more common in the Pop industry, just look at britney spears, christina aguelera and those wannabes out there, they don't create their own music, they're just handed out songs that they will " sing ".

I never said that i denied! I only said that heavy metal, in general, should NOT be connected to satanism because not all bands are like that.
