The key to stop finicky eaters is DISCIPLINE.
No matter what or how you feed your dog as long as you give in to what he/she demands, it will all just go down to the same thing. Good thing sir that you already do the time feeding scheme since this will train your dog to eat at a specific time and when do you want him/her to eat. Show to him that you are the leader and that he will follow what you would like him to do. Sometimes its difficult to see a dog not eating his meals but always try to remember that you are implying discipline to him. In time you will see results and you will gain respect from your dog.
In addition, you can always give supplements in between to stimulate appetite. This will also give calories to your dog and will benefit him from essential nutrients that is needed for his daily activity.
Just remember that there are no healthy dogs that died from not eating. It is a natural thing for every living creatures to feed in order to sustain life. Ok, so I hope this will address your concern. Just give the best food that you think will benefit his nutritional needs. There are plenty of good dog food for your pooch in the market today. Try to pick one and stick to it at least for awhile so you don't mess around your dogs taste buds.
