Default Broken Headphones; Right Channel Not Working, Planning to take off the volume control

    Hello guys, here's a problem.

You can skip the next paragraph if you like, because mainly its not my main concern

My 2 year old Philips SBC HP 250 went kaput a week ago and I have been looking for a workaround to fix it. I found out that the speakers do still work and the reason why the right channel is screwing up is because of some parts have a loose contact with the PCB in my volume control. If I add tension in the volume control dial(the one that you turn around to change the volume) towards the PCB, both channels work well. I do not really have a degree in Electronics and I do not want to re-solder the volume control dial to get rid of any possibilities of loose contact in the parts.

Now here is my concern, what if I just take off the volume control and just link the wires to their corresponding pairs? Would it be a feasible option to get the headphones working aside from the penalty of having a lower volume? Also, does anyone know how low the volume is going to be without the volume control?

Too bad I won't be getting my free Sennheiser headphones till New Year. That's why im posting this so I can have a working headphones until next year.

You can probably spray RP7 or wd40. These improve contacts of coppers.
Thats what I usually do if there are loose contact on pci components like old videocard or ram. The disadvantage is it might make your volume control greasy when using so you can wipe it off with a tissue.

dili mo-lower ang volume ani bro kung i-short na nimo dritso sa speaker.. ang kanang volume control is a potentiometer man so kung kwaon na nimo, max na dritso.. sa software nalang na i-adjust ang volume. so, pwedi ra...

but, first sulayi lag spray ang dial w/ contact cleaners.. la koy ma-recommend nga brand kay puro man to industrial use.. hehehe..

@TS sakto si ethzneuron pero i think lisud limpyo if sprayhan ni nimo sa sulod kay gagmay baya ni sila nya gagmay ug mga openings. if ma open imo ang volume controll niya mas maau if dili sunda lang kang ethzneuron.

I'm gonna try spraying some WD40 nya and see if there's still a problem. Actually, the volume control is not working anymore due to my torture with the potentiometer but the volume is set to high man. I just hope this also fixes the potentiometer.

I haven't really used the volume control in the headphones a lot because I use the volume control in my keyboard more often. So murag tang-tang gyud ni padung if the potentiometer wont still work. I just need to find something that can bind the wires firmly and also take up torture.

Anyways, thanks for the tip on the removing the potentiometer. I though I'm gonna have a lower volume without the volume control.

you will have a bigger volume without the potentiometer kay resistor man na siya ug function. i short nalang na diritso, lisud nana imo potentiometer basin nanga bend na ang mga copper/gold, etc na strips na nag contact sa disk niya sa potentiometer.
