kumusta, mga woodworkers?
i was itching to make a tool cabinet and a workbench for my tools and supplies and decided to do the tool cabinet first. it's a hanging cabinet on the unused wall of our garage and it is a welcome addition to prevent clutter of our tools and supplies.
the hardest part is the design and measurement to maximize the plywood so there would be very minimal waste. i ended up something like 13 1/4 for the sides, 10 3/4 for the shelves and 14 for the top/bottom (all inches). the design calls for piano hinges to provide strength for the doors since i will be using the inside part of the doors to hang the small hand tools (rulers, squares, chisels, screwdrivers, pliers, etc.). i just screwed solid 1x2 wood to the plywood edge to attach the piano hinge for more strength (plywood edge has very little holding power) overall dimension is 4' x 4' with 2 pcs 2'x4' doors
so, here are some pictures and tips (as learned) hehe.
Stage 1: (cutting and assembly)
Pic 1: Cutting the sheet goods
tip#2 - just cut on the floor with 2x4's under the plywood. it's much more easier and safer
Pic 2: Assembling the sheets
tip #3 - always drill pilot holes (for plywood, 50% of the diameter of the screw will do)
Pic 3: Screwing
(very convenient to have two drills actually)
Pic 4: Attaching the piano hinge (very time consuming)
tip #4: Piano hinges sold at the diy centers are very expensive!
3' - P270; 4' - P380 (HomeAid) - stainless
6' - P1,750 (Hafele) - bronze
whereas; 8' local is only P140 - local bronze (but can be painted)
I went with the local one since i need 2 pcs of 4'
Pic 5: I was lucky that I got a plywood with a very good face. This will be stained and finished (rather than painted).
Total hours done so far - 6
Next stage will be to attach the right door and to start the finishing (before mounting this to the wall)
share pud mo inyu projects guys. and tips also to improve our hobby.
