On a side note.. if tig basa ka sa posts ni kuya ken (loL) you might want to read this post of his.
    How to Spot an Amateur

    An excerpt:
'Polarizer over UV filter, or polarizer used all the time

Doing either of these is silly.

It's inelegant to put a polarizer over a UV filter. You might get vignetting with a wide lens, and you're inviting extra ghosts and flare from the unneeded UV filter that should have been removed before you placed any other filter over the lens. The UV is just a mechanical prophylactic, it doesn't do anything optically today. "

still LoL at ken's post ... backpacks, strollers, strap over neck and so on...

nindot kaau imu mga landscape diaries bai lemreyes..
I think the landscape diaries you are referring to is from paul.

For mid-day long exposures it's best to use the Hoya ND400 or the B+W ND110.
ND400 blocks 9 stops of light while the ND110 blocks 10 stops.

There is no need to combine a UV with a CPL. The UV filter is the least used of all my filters.

Great! very useful info you have sir dbgg197. The past days I get freak out whenever I take shots during daylight kay ma hadlok ko nga madaot unya ang lens ba( intawn wala pkoy ika puli sa kitlens). Planning to pruchase a CPL. I thought pud nga ang CPL ug ang UV filter pareho ra(nebie pa). At least now I know their differences.

    up for this thread

KENROCKWELL is full of Sh!T.. still people believe his blog like watching theonion news.

Check his About link on his site

This is my personal website. I do it all by myself.

I'm just one guy with a computer who likes to take pictures. I have the playful, immature and creative, trouble-making mind of a seven-year-old, so read accordingly. Here are some typical photos of me in the studio.

This site is purely my personal speech and opinion, and a way for me to goof around. Don't take any of this as true; I like to make things up as much as any other kid.

I don't own the gear you see me talk about. Even if I did own it when I wrote about it, this site has been on-the-air for over ten years, and very little, if any of it, is still here today. Most of the items I write about I've borrowed from friends and have returned, or if I did own them, were given away to freinds, donated to charity, or in the old days, sold.

While often inspired by actual products and events, just like any other good news organization, I like to make things up and stretch the truth if they make an article more fun. In the case of new products, rumors and just plain silly stuff, it's all pretend. If you lack a good BS detector or sense of humor, please treat this entire site as the work of fiction that it is. it is the product of my own imagination.

This site is provided only for the entertainment of my personal friends, dogs, family and myself. I've never promoted this site. If you're reading this, you got here on your own.

Read this site at your own risk. I make a lot of mistakes. I have no proof-reader and there are plenty of pages, like this one, which have been around since the 1990s and may no longer apply or be correct. I'm just one guy. No matter how stupid something may be, if I don't catch it, it gets out there anyway and stays wrong for years until someone points it out. I can't track everything; I've written thousand of pages and write a few more every day.

If you find anything out of whack, please let me know, since there are a lot more of you than there are of me.

You still can use ND filters at nightime for the same reasons .... taking long exposure shots.
if you want to minimize street lamp glares while wanting to have the effect of streaking
moving car lights etc. use ND filters.
If you want to take photos of fully lighted bldgs as background while at the same time wanting to take a good crisp exposure of the foreground, you still can use GND filters.

UV filters are more useful as lens protection. you can abuse wiping it without worrying of permanent damage. you can replace it anytime. I find the Lens hood more useful than the uv filter as far as protection is concern.

for those who would want to use filters, make up your mind which lens serves you best so you wont end up buying filters on different sizes. that if you want to save.
