What will happen to Earth when it aligns with the center of the Milky Way galaxy as well as the Sun on the year 2012?

Please state your scientific analysis of the probable phenomenon and events which will occur in this year... Thanks!

Simple. Nothing will happen. The distances involved in this celestial event are so vast, gravitational effects will be negligible.

(I will allow this thread to continue because it doesn't state any catastrophe theory or include any references to "planetary/galactic tidal forces" or Nibiru. If anyone even mentions any of those, thread will be closed)

This is precisely why I find this whole "Galactic Alignment Doomsday" thing ridiculous. Here you have people predicting doomsday via a "Galactic alignment", yet I bet most of them can't even picture how this alignment is supposed to happen (i.e. what's aligned with what?), yet they're darn sure that it's going to happen.

I'll grab a bag of popcorn and wait a bit on this one before I answer your question hizuka.

correct me if i'm wrong, so it won't involve alignment of all the planets in our solar system? It's just Earth, Sun, and moon? sakto ba? hehe! Most of the things, I've read about galactic alignment is that nothing will really happen. I don't also see a big fuss about this in the scientific community or I may be wrong. hehehehe

considering that science is mostly just educated guesses and there are still a lot of things that modern science cannot account for, i would not be surprised if a celestial alignment would result in some radical changes.

while rodsky says the distances are too vast, we, as human beings don't really have a proper mental framework to put those distances in perspective.

that said, i am not a supporter of the "2012" end of the world thing, however.

still, i am not arrogant enough to discount the possibility. i don't know everything.
