Hello to all! We have a very difficult homework and I don't know to answer it. I thing it is about Quadratic Equation. Here is the word problem:

Genelle and Eljen can paint a room together in 4 hours. Working alone, Genelle can paint the room in two hours less than Eljen can. Find how long it takes Eljen to paint the room alone.

Please, I am begging you… I want the answer and how to solve it……

x = number of hours that Eljen will take in painting the room alone
x-2 = number of hours that Genelle will take in painting the room alone

4 = x + ( x-2 )
4 = 2x - 2
4 + 2 = 2x
6 = 2x ; both should be divided by 2
x = 3 hours

it takes 3 hours for Eljen to finish painting the room...

ok...... thanks "baning"..... 4th year nako..... Can I ask another question? abt quadratic equation gihapon..... This is it: A swimming pool holds 600 cubic meters of water. It can be drained at the rate of 9 minutes faster than it can be filled. If it takes half an hour to fill it than to drain it, find the drainage rate.

since total is 600 cubic meters.. it takes half an hour to fill.. so 600/30 min = 20 cubic meters/min.
since you said it can be drained 9 min faster than it can be filled.. it means 21 min to drain it all since 30-9 = 21 and at a rate of 29 cubic meters/min
