Are Atan Guardo and Mary Ann de los Santos abandoning their respective congressional quests to run for mayor and vice mayor instead? They are not saying as yet, but in all likelihood they will. Nobody plays politics and stays oblivious to political realities.
If they do reset their sights and go for City Hall, they will not be the first ones to do so. Mar Roxas, after so much effort and spending so much, eventually slid down to vice president. And as it turned out, it was all for the better. The same could go for Atan and Mary Ann.
Against Tomas Osmeña in the south, Atan would have the fight of his life. The same with Mary Ann in the north against Cutie del Mar. But in the city, the fight would be against Mike Rama and Joy Young, plus maybe Sonny Osmeña, Georgia Osmeña, Winston Garcia and their partners.
The more there are who will join the fray, the more the fight will be spread thin. And this can only work in favor of Atan and Mary Ann who have long prepared for battle and have their forces already in place.
