    Exclamation Samsung JET S8003 Review

    Introduction

    This is my first gadget review in years now and I have become quite rusty with my writing skills. Go easy on me Anyway, I have had the Samsung JET S8003 for the past two weeks already. This is the very same phone I won at the SM WiFi Photoblog contest a few weeks ago. Nonetheless, I have used it mainly for a week as my main phone with my SUN Cellular plan.

    Overview

    Samsung has lately been targeting the younger markets with their fancy, gorgeous, sleek and multimedia oriented phones. In fact a lot of my classmates in University own and use a Samsung phone. Here are my thoughts and views.

    Design

    At first glance, I was wooed by the aesthetics and form factor of the Samsung JET. The phone has the typical design of a full touch-screen phone. It looks similar to the Apple iPhone and the LG’s touch screen phone, however, a little bit smaller in size both in thickness and length/width. The phone only comes in one color scheme – a sleek black coating with a sort of “hologram” red on the back end.

    Moreover, there are three buttons on the façade of the Samsung Jet. These include the “Call”, “Menu” (Diamond shaped) and “End/Off” button. On the left hand side there’s the volume control buttons. While on the right hand side, there’s the “Lock”, “Magic Cube” and the “Camera” buttons.

    The back end of the phone is mainly made from plastic and can be easily lifted to insert the SIM card, battery or microSD card.

    The top part of the phone includes the microUSB/charging port and the 3.5mm headset jack.

    Additionally, there’s a small camera placed in front of the phone for 3G purposes whilst a 5 megapixel is placed at the backside of the phone with two extremely bright LED flashes. Moreover, there’s a loud speaker located on the back which is mediocre in quality and is loud enough indoors.

    disadvantage: when txting you can't move the cursor back to a misspelled letter, tapping won't work.

    everything else is flawless. my wife's been borrowing this ever since i bought it.

    How much are the average prices for the 2GB and the 8GB version?

    Naay external visual difference between those two?

    the 8 GB is not available anywhere yet. there should also be no visual diff except probably for the label saying 8GB, similar to that of the omnia series.

    btw, i've been using the jet for a few months now, and a major firmware update takes care of a lot of the disadvantages being mentioned. it is one superb phone.

    Thanks! I had no luck finding that info for the past several minutes.

    I just bought a Jet from Samsung in Northwing a few hours ago. Though I wish it's 9.9mm instead of 11.9mm thick, it's still very nice.

    What i dont like about samsung phones, their UI's looks childish... i had an omia1 before, i only used it as a backup phone and sold it after 7 months as i really dont like their UI's, the implementation of their touchwhiz and all, more like an LG, also very childish though i like the S-Class.

    I've been using smart phones for sometime now and i must say, HTC has the best UI's and implementation. Good for businessman and working professionals. I guess samsung smartphone target are the young ones, thats why their phones sold very cheap like LG. I cant comment on Nokia's touchscreens as I havent used Nokia phones for a long time, the last 1 was the Nokia 9500.

    I tested the Omnia2 2 days ago, i like the screen and very responsive too, not like the omnia1 but still the same, UI implementation is not my liking, widgets looks bad, touchwhiz sucks. hehehe

    Just my 2 cents. (peace to all samsung lovers)

    @aridoasis
    It says S8003DX1G2
    What are the benefits a the firmware update?

    @T1CODE
    That's nice to know of the smartphones, I'm looking forward to a better 'HTC Hero' in the future myself.
    Can you please elaborate what comprises a "childish" UI design? Too much colors? Too obvious-looking icons?

    I'm sure you already know, the Jet is not a smartphone, posting about smartphones is a little off.

    If you're always looking what a phone model can do instead of just what you want to do with it, you'll always be upgrading to a better phone. Something most users don't have the convenience of doing.

    @m4a1
    Widgets, in a general sense, are supposed to stay in a background or desktop of some sort to be readily available for use or just be visible to provide a service/indicator/usage. For the Jet, you have to drag a widget out of that sidebar for it to be useful pero mura'g naay uban widgets nga mu-work ra from the sidebar pa lang.
