@ongkal ... I live in the US ... but have you played on a service similar to the one proposed? It is BETTER for the majority of users ... even outside the US. Even if it wasn't better, I don't live in the Philippines ... nor is the Philippines even exist as a blip on the gaming radar. These are companies and they are here to make money ... the US is where the money is at.
With that said ... you are premature to call this move out as a "bad" thing. You have yet to play it ... yet to see the performance. If you want to take a stand ... then do so. The minuscule number of sales that come from the Philippines is irrelevant to publisher.
@vern
i know what you mean about philippine sales, sir vern. im just concerned about the lag, not only for us, but also for our neighbors. i only played OFP2 for one day because of lag without dedis. L4D was a pain in the ass for us especially with the random matchmaking.(luckily though, i have a steam filipino group who has dedicated servers in singapore with bearable ping) i just cant understand why they decided to fix something that was never broken in the same place. now instead of happy customers worldwide, i see the outcome as otherwise. nevertheless, i shall wait for results. im guessing this will win the most pirated game award if multiplayer is indeed ruined for the rest of the world aside from US and EU.
I reckon they should have just included both options. So when you go on the Multiplayer menu for the PC version, you can either play on IWNet (with Region Filters, and Rank Progression tracking), or join a dedicated server (with a server browser list) for people who want to play the game their way. Wouldn't that be a win win situation?
I know probably too late to implement that now with the game coming out next month. But they can always patch it.
This is a classic case of gamers all in a huff before they even know what they are dealing with. From what I am reading ... they only deal with "standard" dedicated servers. What that means, people are yet to find out. People compare this move to something others have done but which isn't really fair to compare a game with the popularity of Modern Warfare and a developer with the caliber of Inifinity Ward. People whined about Starcraft 2 ... no LAN play. People whined about Left 4 Dead 2 early release date. Now people whine about this. In the end, all the whiners will be buying the game. This is NOT an excuse to pirate a game. Stop justifying your e-rage.
