Astrophotography - a set on Flickr

Hello! There are two kind of astrophotography, Widefield and Supertele.

For normal photographers like us, widefield astrophotography is the very possible for us. The simplest form sis tripod astrophotography. This is basically setting your camera lens focus to infinitiy, wide open aperture, ultrawide angle lens if possible, ISO 3200, then 30-45 seconds exposure. If you point your camera at the constellation Scorpius, you will see the center of our galaxy, Milky Way, a very awesome astrophotography subject. hehehehe! The problem with this is that you are limited to your exposure time. More than 45 seconds (depends on how wide you lens is, the wider then the more exposure time you can get), then you will see star trails instead. hehehe!

The only problem in the method above is High ISO noise which is unavoidable in every camera. What professional Astrophotographers or Astronomers do is they use a lower ISO and expose probably 5mins to as long as 3 hours. They also even take discrete 5 minute exposures and stack them to form a 2 hour exposure. You might ask, "What about star trails?" Well, this is where money comes in, and us normal photographers can not do anymore. They piggyback their cameras or even couple their DSLRs into advanced astronomical telescopes with Motorized tracking to track the movement of the stars. With the tracking system, they can expose as long as they want. hehehe!

But ordinary tripod astrophogarphy is accessible to all photographer. =) Here are some of my photos I took. The trick here is to go as far away from the city. Light pollution from the city will get you frustrated in your astroshots. Basic settings are widest possible lens you have, wide open aperture as possible, ISO 3200, 30-45 seconds, and of course tripod.. hehehe! Use also the software Stellarium so that, you can find the constellations you want to shoot. Its a free software. You can google it.

Here are all my astroshots so far.. hehe
