im new to photography so excuse my ignorance. whats the difference between the two.
the 50mm f/1.8 would be a nice starter. 7k (more or less) compared sa 35mm (12k+?).
pero if you have money, why not 35mm? :P it's wider (don't forget the 1.5x crop)

a word of notice, basin ma-addict ka ug prime lens. haha

    sharp and fast

Lemme share something I picked up from a local photography forum:

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There have been many queries on this point and the overwhelming responses have been in favor of the D90.

I would just like to highlight two major advanatages for choosing the D90 over the D5000 - and peg a peso value to these two features.

    1. Nikon Creative Lighting System (CLS)

Nikon CLS may initially seem unimportant, but if you spend some time learning and using your Nikon flash system, you will be grateful that your D90 supports this. This feature alone is easily worth at least P10,000 ... and for those who use the flash a lot, Nikon CLS is worth a lot more!

    2. Built-in focusing motor

This not only expands the lens selection that can focus on the D90, this feature ultimately saves you money by enabling you to buy lower-costing non-AF-S Nikon lenses. This feature alone is easily worth at least P10,000 ... and a lot more if you use earlier non-AF-S lenses.

For example, for travel, you may decide in the near-future that you want an ultra-wide angle lens to add to your Nikon 18-200mm AF-S zoom lens. If you choose a D5000, you will need to get the Nikkor 10-24mm f/3.5-f/4.5G if you want this to autofocus on your D5000. If you choose a D90, you can opt for the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8. The Tokina ultra-wide angle lens is not only less expensive (by at least P10,000 or more), it is considered by many as optically superior, has a constant f/2.8 aperture, and is better build than the Nikkor 10-24mm. So for this lens purchase alone, you may already recover the cost difference between the D5000 and the D90.

    Lets take another example.

For family photos, you may want to get a 50mm lens as this will be a much better lens than your Nikon 18-200mm. This lens is not only sharper, but also for ideal for taking photos in low-light and available light conditions.

If you are willing to spend more to get a 50mm lens that would autofocus on the D5000, you will need to get the Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G AF-S lens. This sells for approx. P25,000. In contrast, if you have the D90, you have the option of getting the 50mm f/1.8D AF (approx. P7,000), or the 50mm f/1.4D AF (approx. P12,000), and finally the Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G AF-S lens (approx. P25,000).

You may also want a more specialized portrait lens. In this case, you would be looking at either the Nikon 85mm f/1.8D AF or the Nikon 85mm f/1.4D AF. Both lenses will not autofocus on the D5000 but will autofocus on the D90. Nikon has yet to release an 85mm AF-S lens. Though it is likely that Nikon will release a new 85mm in AF-S, this will also likely be much more expensive than the two versions mentioned here.

If you need yet another example, lets take the telephoto zoom as an example. If you use a D5000, you will need to get the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8G AF-S which cost anywhere from P85,000-P98,000 new so that this will autofocus on the D5000. If you use a D90, you can opt for the same lens, or the considerably less expensive Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8F AD at approx. P45,000. (?). This latter lens is not the equal of the former but you will at least have the option of choosing the lower costing 80-200mm f/2.8 zoom lens.

Bottom line: you will have a lot more lenses to choose from that can autofocus on your body if you choose a D90 than if you choose the D5000.

    Good luck.
