LEFTISTS yesterday likened Army Captain Gerardo Gambala, a leader of the 2003 failed Oakwood mutiny, to Judas Iscariot for claiming in a government-produced video that the Left and the Right had formed an alliance to topple President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo after the attempted coup by junior officers fizzled out.
"It seems that in line with the Lenten season, Gambala is playing the Judas to his former colleagues in the Magdalo," Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP, Peasant Movement of the Philippines) leader Willy Marbella said in a statement.
The militant group, whose leaders were among those accused by the government of plotting with Magdalo leaders, said Gambala must have received his "30 pieces of silver," the amount for which the Bible says Judas betrayed Jesus Christ to Roman soldiers.
"The question is: How much did MalacaƱang pay him to turn his back on his former comrades? What is his deal with Gloria (Arroyo)? For him to corroborate MalacaƱangās lies, hisprice would certainly be more than 30 pieces of silver," Marbella said.
