    Tinker,

No offense man. I know you're a good friend of Micmic but my comments are based on mic-mic's present work.Micmic still needs to work on those frequency build-up and those masking, specially. I know all the things you said. But still, at the end of the day, the mixer is always responsible for the final result. The mixer has also the responsibility to educate the Producer, A&R, etc. Because HE is the expert on audio engineering. So far, I don't hear any extraordinary in Micmic's work.

I know that the art of mixing is Evolutionary Process. And in this process, you must be open to any criticism inorder for you to evolve into a better something. What happen to Micmic is, he stop listening to this critics and also stops his evolution. Sorry to say this man but, this is what happening now.

    Thanks.

    mannex,

    Rastaboy,

puwede ra sad mo record bisag asa nga studio unya adto ninyo sa lain nga studio ipa-mix. recording, mixing and mastering are three different animal for your info.

    Whisper,
    When you wrote:
... i find mic-mic's mixing harsh and fatiguing ug nipis paminawon. I had to listen to the album "Best of Pinoy Alternative" over again just to validate your statement. If you're familiar with it, it features a host of Manila bands like Bamboo, Hale, Twisted Halo etc. and 3 Cebu bands namely Urbandub, Ambassadors and Faspitch. Their songs, which were recorded at Backyard Projects Studio, clearly stand out from the rest of the songs in the album that were recorded in Manila. Lahi ra jud ang mix.

... mostly sa mga banda sa cebu kay not really after for superb quality. Basta ma record lang ang ila kanta, makadugnog sa ila guitar licks ug uban pa, happy na sila. This might be true for some Garage bands who can't afford the studio time and mixing costs but still want Their Music recorded for posterity's sake. But for professional bands like Urbandub, Shiela & the Insects, Junior Kilat, Slapshack, Menaya, and Agaw Agimat and even Max Surban, I Don't Think So. These bands demand perfection. Tinuod barato ang hourly rate sa Backyard but the out of towners who record there have to spend for their stay in Cebu which can be a few days to several weeks.

... puwede ra sad mo record bisag asa nga studio unya adto ninyo sa lain nga studio ipa-mix. Yeah. Happens all the time.

It's true that most of Mic mic's projects these days are alternative bands. Frequency build-up, parallel tracks, masking white noise, etc. I believe he has some unconventional methods which are unacceptable to some but he puts them to good use and this sets his work apart form the rest. Siya ray nahibaw ana bro.

Bro. I see you're unimpressed with his work, is it because your Music is of a different genre? or maybe you dabble in sound engineering yourself. I'm just a friend who is impressed with a fellow Cebuano who mixed & mastered the Urbandub's album that won Album of the year and Junior Kilat's Ako si M-16 which was Song of the year in NU107's Rock Awards.

    peace!

    Rastaboy,

That's why it's called Backyard Project Studio. it's located in the owner's backyard. Literal jud kaayo. Hans does the recording or laying of the tracks. After recording he then prepares the files for mixing and mastering by Mic mic.

So we won't be totally off topic, the rates in Backyard Project Studio are Php 400.00/hour for Recording and Php 400.00 for Mixing and Mastering.

    Band Practice Studio: Php 120.00

    Cheers!

    Tinker,

I think dabble is not the word because my fulltime job is in audio engineering and currently based in U.S. Pero cebuano ko.

I won't argue with you. But if you could have the chance to listen these mixes in a high end facilitate and if you really have that trained ear, you could also say that I'm right.

By the the way, I'm part of the mastering staff at Future Disc Systems. Based in Hollywood. I just want to help uplift the cebuano music. Sorry if I'd offended you. But the truth really hurts.

    Thanks.

    Whisper.

No offense taken. None at all.

I checked the web site of your company. 25 years in the business. Awesome! You guys are the Masters of Mastering! Your facilities are beyond comparison. Total State of the Art. Nothing in the Philipines comes close. Your client list is like the who's who list in the recording industry.

Sad to say that it is not the case in Cebu. The studios here use desktop PCs and rely mainly on software for their mastering tasks. As I have said, in Mic mic's case, he uses unconventional mixing methods which i might say are beyond the limit and unacceptable by industry standards. Unconventional they may be but it works. His services sought after by the Local alternative and Rock bands. How could something so wrong be right? Another thing to consider is the fact that these music will be probably be played on portable or small stereo systems which are incapable of reproducing every nuance of recorded music. I'm sure with a high end audio system things would be different.

Are you serious about wanting to help the Cebuano music scene? Perhaps you could start a thread here in istorya.net about Recording, Mixing and Mastering, share your expertise and knowledge on the matter. I'm certain Cebu's crop of audio engineers and hobbyists will be able to raise their skills to a higher level with your input.

Think about it. Make your mark in Cebuano Music.

    Cheers!
