True. Officials should have a morality check, even those who claimed to be moralists (or moral terrorists).

Check this old article out. It's funny.

Actually, it’s not only the song but also the accompanying dance that has turned into a craze—by this I mean the typically Sexbomb gyrations. From the discos during fiestas to parties and to many television shows, one sees people writhing like snakes to approximate the Sexbomb move. The result: so-called moralists want the song banned.

I just heard that the Cebu City Anti-Indecency Board (Caib), through its chief, my friend Rene Josef Bullecer, has formalized the complaint through a letter to the Movie and Television Review and Classifications Board (MTRCB). Bullecer criticized the Sexbomb Girls and the song’s lyrics (“Spaghetting pababa…pataas”) as “bastos.”

I could not blame Bullecer for saying that, after all, one does get hot just watching the sexy and pretty Sexbomb members wearing skimpy attire. But that is only a matter of appearance. The truth is, these girls do not talk bastos and, beyond their dancing, do not act bastos. They are your typical shy girls just trying to make a living through sheer talent—dancing and singing.

As for “Spaghetti,” maybe moralists should understand the lyrics first before acting jumpy. This isn’t your song with double meaning a la “Arrayy!” Rather, this is in the mold of Yoyoy Villame’s “Mag-exercise tayo tuwing umaga…” I mean, only the really malicious would consider spaghetti as a phallic symbol and “pababa…pataas” as alluding to a sexual act.

I think Bullecer and like-minded people maybe missing the point here, or more specifically, may only be skimming the surface in the fight against pornography. Going after the “Spaghetti Song” may create ripples, but in the end it won’t mean anything because it won’t hit the real monsters, like nightspots doubling as prostitution dens, pirated pornographic vcds, etc.

By the way, everytime I mention the word “moralist” the first description that comes to my mind is “stiff.” Maybe the difficulty of laying limits to what society must or must not do are making moralists too serious in their demeanor and thinking. So to them my advice: plug in your vcd players, play the “Spaghetti Song” and let it go.

Di man jud ni ma eliminate totally. Hilas aning grupoha.
