Another useless government entity! Why are they paid for? Dapat wagtangon na ila budget from government. They should spend their own money dili kay mag agad sa sweldo sa government.

I think CAIB's a waste of tax money.

I see that they have removed from the sidewalk the stairs of the comedy bar, 22nd Street. Good. Now the public can again use the sidewalk without that obstruction.

But what about the Yamaha signage only a few meters away? Did the Office of the Building Official authorize its construction? If it did not, how did it escape the official’s attention?

The city’s building inspectors may have been negligent in the case of Mango Square, Mayor Tomas Osmeña reportedly admitted. Indeed, they have been, no doubt about it.

As I have pointed out in an earlier column, had the responsible City Hall officials not been sleeping on the job, they would have been able to immediately detect the stalls that were starting to appear in Mango Square. The owners would have been timely advised not to proceed with the construction because they violated building laws and regulations.

Because no such advice came, the owners now stand to lose the hard-earned money they invested in their little stalls. The latest report said Osmeña does not only want the stalls closed, he wants them demolished.

If it’s any consolation to our building officials, it was not only their office that failed to do its job in Mango Square. The Cebu Anti-Indecency Board (Caib) was just as monumental a failure.

Caib came into the picture only after the issue had been blown up in the media.

Why wasn’t it able to do something about the supposed indecent acts being committed inside the square before it became a big issue? What did it do to address the supposed complaint of students of a nearby school about it?

The answer, I am afraid, is none.

Now, I read that the Caib has declared Cebu City as nearly pornography-free. Excuse me? How do you define pornography in the first place?

If it means the absence of hubo-hubo shows in some of the city’s bars, that is not what I hear from my friends in the Cebu City Commercial Tennis Club. Are they’re talking about different cities?

I have seen a documentary by bbc about the porn industry, and I can't believe how much money they are making out of it.
The internet is like the ultimate lifeline of porn.
Yeah and technology is always ahead of the law.

They could have deal with prostitution first then pornography.
Watching porn won't give you HIV anyway.

.. porn is a multi billion dollar industry worldwide. They are just too ambitious and thinking with their arses with this move. Kamikaze is right, *** EDUCATION is needed. Coz if a person is much educated in *** and it's associated acts, he will be responsible and mature enough to deal with it.

Yup. Trimming down porn is so much like cleaning the ever dirty Pasig River.

But if we follow that logic, then we might as well try to stop criminals from committing murder. Murder has been around since time immemorial (since Cain killed Abel), but that doesn't make murder right. And it doesn't make efforts to minimize such crimes wrong either.

it's very difficult, of course, to fight such things. No one can deny that. That's why such efforts need our support. Or, at least, we should not try to make things more difficult for them.

This is what is so sick about our twisted morals here in this country. We have so many pressing issues, like starving children, bad infrastructure, crime, corruption etc and these *****s are wasting money imposing "morals" which belong purely in the private sphere. Maybe it's the priests again and their pernicious influence over our government that is the cause of this, but I feel sick whenever I hear what our awesome (sarcasm) policemen are up to. So.. let me put it this way, instead of running after robbers and murderers they are spending their time demolishing porn stands. WTF. Someone put these animals out of their misery already...
