Regarding License or copyright, make sure na your idea is original
If imng idea original, then file patent sa imng software or just even the algorithm, but if not, make sure na dli ka makaligis or compete with companies that owns the idea or the patent to your software. You can patent a trademark or product name lang.

But you cannot apply for copyright sa things na dli imng original idea, example; information system such as HRIS, payrol, etc. overused na kaayu ni.

naa ba tay habol if naay mo copya or edit our program... i think naa man gud software na mo decode from exe to sourcecode...
Practically wla, and ayaw kabalaka if naay mo copya or mo edit sa imo program, dli lang ikaw ang nagproblema ani, almost all sotware houses including Top guys like Adobe or Microsoft.
Piracy is always a problem and dli ni nmo problemahon unless you did invent the next breakthrough software, else people dont care, plain and simple!

If imo product is consumer based, meaning wlay specific client then you should provide a licensing agreement along with your software na mo emphasize na "copying" is wrong, which is mao man jd ang gibuhat sa tanang commercial software (ex is EULA from Microsoft products).
But if imo software para lang sa particular client, then you should include sa inyung contract na bawal i copy ang software or naay ray LIMITED number of licenses na pwedi nila magamit.

Lastly, sabta kung HOW SOFTWARE licenses works para dli ka matechnical, basin nya mo pataka ka ug gamit sa mga "FREE AND OPEN SOURCE" things available, understand the following terms; copyright, copyleft; GNU -GPL, LGPL, shareware, freeware.

    Good luck!

You can do sideline projects as long it does not relate to CONFLICT OF INTERESTS.
If you are using VB in your company. You can do web programming as your sideline. If you if you are doing programing related to devices, You can make sideline programs related to softwares..... etc.

I'm working in a company.... I have no problem doing sideline projects
If you are trying to make a living for your family, do whatever you can to make it true. Who's stopping you anywayz? LOLs

Freelance or sideline jobs, don't need license......... it's all about RECOGNITION. :P

if you need to do freelance then do it. the company has no jurisdiction on your free time.

basta remember don't use your sideline time in your official working time. kay kung masakpan ka, the company obviously own your sideline program kay they are paying your time but doing not official tasks.

    good luck.

Hmmp... If you are working on a company and you are thinking to do moonlighting and you're concerned on any legal pursuits, I suggest you read first your signed contract from that company you are working for. Since, naa jud company nga nagRestrict og moonlighting (for technology/data protection stuff ** conflict of interest). Basically, la ra man problem kung magFreelance ka(besides time management), but just a couple of advice, earn you're customer's trust and don't use your office hours for your freelance.

Freelance job is isn't a problem to me eversince I started. In fact, my boss knows that I'm taking another projects, and the reasons of my several vacation leave is due to some meetings, deployment and etc...
although I hate to take day-off but i have to...anyway, the comeback is 6months times of my gross income.

I never worried about this licensing stuffs, since I give all the credits to my customers, they can modified it and compile it on their own, or even hire another programmer for small/large modifications. Anyway, If you're good, they will always come back for your help.

in case you want to hide some of your codes, then do it by providing them interface thru COM objects.

the only thing i can advise is get someone who can work with you, who can attend some meetings, test, troubleshoot, or can modify and check, if you don't want going office with red eyes
