I am looking for a cheap one but that does not sacrifice the specs.

it all comes down how much will u spend for it.

one thing lng akong ma-suggest. don't buy generic lappys. better brand new nlng since naa mn gyd nai warranty; nya since it's ur bday gift, dba mas maau mn nga malipay kas imong napalit kaysa puro pagmahay nuon.

when you say cheap your budget is very important... and your required specs are very important to consider...

if you are a gamer or autocad or photoshop or video editing user then you ultimately need much higher multimedia specs and a cheap price would be 50k to 70k for that kind or lappy.
but if your just a surfer, minimal games, some picasa, occasional dvd burning, etc. then a 20k to 25k unit will do...

I can shell out around 30k.
surf, a lil game, and i do photoshop too.
i wanna have one for back-ups (digicam/phone files).
I wanted a brand new. Any good manufacturers?

with that budget try to look for Compaq or Asus brand. i was able to find one at Thinking Tools with specs Dualcore 2.1Ghz, 2GB ram, 160HD with a not bad GeForce 9400GS onboard videocard, it was a bday gift for my sis. it just cost 32T flat cash.
