He said that that's the purpose of the laws (the commandments) in Christianity, to help us mature spiritually. He compares it to playing the game of golf. Anyone can play golf, but only a few can play it really well. And to play it well requires discipline and the practice of certain techniques. The angle of the club, the posture of the body, the timing, the frame of mind, etc., all play a part in you playing the sport well. It takes a lot of practice and of course self-discipline. The priest says it's the same with religion, there are many rules, techniques, practices, etc., but these are not designed to hinder you in any way. Rather, they're there to help you grow spiritually, to cultivate you and help you become a better person, a better Christian. Jesus himself in the Gospels warned about being caught up in the letter of the law and missing its spirit.
Agree..it's called the basics. When one's reach spiritual maturity one assume full responsibility of having to decide for themselves what to believe. When I was in college we were so burden with mastering certain mathematics subject, calculus, algebra, trigonometry and other head cracking subjects in the prospectus. Funny, when I'm now working in my field everything we use are plain arithmetic..pag-kasayona na sa actual nga trabaho. Then I realized that all those terror mathematics subjects were meant simply to sharpen my analytical skills..in the same manner religions does that to us..sharpens our spiritual nature and clash it with our rational mind..in the process force us to search the truth; to each of our own truth- a truth which we can live by as our own not just something we just all agree.

If there's one religion that is enslaving in its grip that would be Islam. Renouncing Islam is a dangerous choice for any muslim.

In the case of Christianity, enslaving comes via freewill of its believers. People willingly go into enslavement by their own free choice. It's not the fault of Christian religions that it members become slave to its dogmas and belief. It's the believers fault if they become enslave by these dogmas, perhaps due to human nature- social animals.

For instance, take the case of the Catholic church stands on abortion and use of artificial contraceptive method. In most cases, survey shows it followers never really heed the church and went on to whatever they opt to do.

In the case of the JIL pastor Bro. Villanueva, who run for the presidency, his earned votes fell short of his church's membership population.

Another most striking example, Jesus or the Bible warns Christians not judge there fellow Christians but still Christians blatantly disregard this commandment and simply do the opposite.

Therefore the arguments that religion enslave people, in the case of Christian religion fails.

enslaving comes from ignorance. there are so much to learn from the church itself. but the nature of man, and having its gift of freewill will fail some believers, unfortunately. but this "failing" does not necessarily mean out of salvation. salvation works from inside and outside of the church, or the religion for that matter. salvation therefore works even for those atheist or non-believers of god.

your pov somewhat contradicts the dogma of the church...if God allows salvation outside of the church? then Christ's church fails..only to those people who havent heard of the gospel and not committed mortal sin will be save..
