remember when our parents used to tell us the PAP SMEARS are for mothers only or for women who are sexually active?

they are probably right, but then again it has been recommended that women who are 21 above should undergo PAP SMEARS, that is if they are not yet sexually active.

again, if you are not sexually active and i mean you haven't done it yet but is already 21 or older then gather your guts and get your PAP SMEAR done.

on the other hand, if you are already sexually active even before you are 21, let us say you had your first sexual contact at the age of 17, then three years after that you should get your PAP SMEAR done too. and then every year after that

DITCH THE OLD BELIEF THAT PAP SMEARS ARE PAINFUL.

that is just an exaggeration. it is more uncomfortable than painful. well, that will also depend on the type of vaginal speculum being used.

there is really no need to fear PAP SMEARS, in fact this can even save your life.

if you are not familiar with this laboratory exam, let me share to you some facts.

PAP SMEARS are performed by OB-GYNs. this is done by inserting the vaginal speculum into the vaginal canal.

then the OB-GYN scrapes some sample from the lining of the cervix.

then you take the specimen to the laboratory for anylysis.

and that is basically it.

PAP SMEARS are done to detect abnormal cells in the lining of the cervix, at its earliest stage. these abnormal cells, if left alone can turn into precancerous cells and eventually cancerous cells.

hey, it is nothing to be ashamed of, besides you are not the only one who is sexually active even before you are married.

besides it is for your own good.

in addition to that, you can also protect yourself from cervical cancer and genital warts, by getting vaccinated.

there are two types of vaccines.

the first one, protects you from two strains only the HPV 16 and 18, this vaccine is also cheaper which costs between 1500-2500 pesos.

and the other one which protects you from four strains: HPV 6 and 11 which causes 90% of genital warts and HPV 16 and 18 which causes cervical cancer. this vaccine is a whole lot more expensive which costs between 4500-6000+.

if you are confused as which vaccine to get, talk to your doctor about it.

I want to get one too, my Ob-gyn advised me to have a shot before, but i was like...It's expensive
what if ill get hit by a truck after spending with that so called vaccine...but hey guess what? It's for my own good anyways, There are alot of women nowadays who is suffering from cervical cancers and I don't want to be counted as 1.

it is expensive...but what the heck...it's for our own good anyone...and the women that are suffering from cervical cancer are getting younger and younger...i had one patient once who was suffering from cervical cancer, end stage...it wasn't really nice to look at...n simpler terms...she's a living dead...

the vaccine is highly recommended for those individuals who has had more one than sexual partner, is sexually active or those who started having s*x at a young age.

and even if you've already had genital warts, it is still recommended to get the vaccine despite that fact that the vaccine is useless against current infection, because the viral strain that causes cervical cancer is different from the viral strain that causes genital warts, other than that the vaccine can also help prevent the recurrence of genital warts caused by another strain.

also this vaccine can be given to young girls as young as 8 or 9 years old....the vaccine will certainly protect them from future infections.^^

before ko ng pa inject i did some readings, so far wala koi nakit-an na news about such.

like any other vaccines, naa man sd contraindications ang anti HPV.

its a case to case basis man gud...basin naa medical condition imoha friend mao nga di advisable nya ang vaccine.
