back in high school some chick who was working as an OJT at my school gave me a cassette tape called original sin by Dondi Ledesma. i have no idea who Dondi is back then and never cared that much about progressive music. i only listened to it once and barely finishing the entire tape. mas payter sa una ang snot og sevendust gd. ako rasad gani to gipaminaw kay chikas kaayo ang ga hatag sa cassete....hehe
flash forward to almost present. a week ago to be exact, while cleaning my room, i saw the tape again and played it for the first time after 10 years. mas na paminaw na gyud nako og tarong ang tukar ni Dondi, and im glad i did. payter kaayo, Bassist extraordinaire. i was so amazed by the music that i tried searching his background or his other stuff worth checking. My search ended in a minute, Sadly the guy i had just rediscovered is already dead for months now..ni try ko pangutana sa mga karaang adik diri sa amoa kung kaila ba sila ni Dondi. most them told me nga bahista daw siya sa maria cafra, ang uban kay wa gyuy kalibutan.hahahaha.... some even asked my question back to me.. question answered by another question which leads me to more question, how many knows or heard of Dondi Ledesma?.
This my friends is my re-introduction to sir Dondi Ledesma... paxensya na sa akong char2x!
"Rizal Dondi Ledesma (b. 1959 - d. Feb. 24, 2009), also known by the stage name DNDI was a Filipino bassist who has been called the father of Filipino Progressive Rock.
His mainstream career consisted mostly of serving as a session Bass Guitarist, playing primarily with Pinoy rock legends Joey “Pepe” Smith and Wally Gonzalez, of whose band he was a regular member. He has served as a bassist in historically significant recordings, including two albums by the popular Filipino folk-rock group Asin, and Pepe Smith's only solo outing, Idiosyncracies. Beginning in the 1992,however, he also independently produced and recorded ten one-man albums, alternately playing bass guitar, piccolo bass guitar, keyboards, flute, sequencer programming, and vocals.
In his live performances, DNDI was a crowd favorite because he played the bass guitar like a lead instrument.
Ledesma died of heart failure at 1 p.m. last February 24,2009 at the Makati Medical Center, where he had been confined since complaining of wobbly legs upon waking up in the morning of January 9."
