the designs ive seen so far are great, the talent is there no doubt but will the average istorya user appreciate such eye firework? anyways keep up the good work guys! cant wait to see the winner of this one

Okay, I slugged through the whole topic (yeah, call me the pratty idiot) and I saw some common item in the posts that made me sorta laugh.

Actually, PHPBB's themesets are set to be flexible, fluid and easy on loading time. You can even make a frames template for the forum (with a few alterations to the codes if permissible). See, the only images in this theme (subsilver) are the header backgrounds (i.e. forum categories, author, message, view previous topic/next topic), the icons (i.e. profile, pm, www, y!m, msn, icq) and the image logo. So if you're using 600x800 or 1024x768, subsilver will still be readable and compatible since the template is based on collapsible tables (ah, tables~).

You can also actually set a width limit to the template and change the which-goes-where's.. Like, the whole static menu links will be to the left while the content will all be in the right, etc etc.

But then you guys already know that, don't you? :S

As for the criteria on the layout loading in under 20 seconds on 28K, it's near-to impossible for that. Subsilver loads past 20 seconds on 56K, what more on 28? I say stretch the limit a bit to 1 minute for the whole thing to show.

As for PHP, it's not hard to learn. It's actually a cinch as long as you're not into hardcore scripting and programming in PHP. All else is as simple as HTML.

And this is why I stick to MiniBB. *bow*

i really want to join but since this thread is for criteria, i'll shed out what i think is importantif PHPBB)
- Originality (Buttons, color styles)
- Logo (if needed..// are you going to change the present logo of istorya?)
- Functionality (user friendly features)
- Efficiency (effective use of graphics = fast loading page // works best compared to eye candies.. Ü)
- Accessibility (can be used even in different Screen resolutions)

I think that's all.. well not sure though... Ü

For people troubled installing PHPBB you will need:
* a personal server (apache, iis, etc...)
* sql program (mssql, mysql, etc..)
* php parser (php.net)
* phpbb software (phpbb.com)

The installation is quite tricky.... but of course there is an easier way! Ü
Here it is:

Go to www.firepages.com.au >>
then download any of the two bundled softwares there.

One is Phpdev423 and the other is Phpdev5.0beta - any of those will work... I tested them already for you guys..(sweet ba? joke lang! Ü)

It contains everything that is needed to run a PHP-able Server(From Apache to MySQL to PHP itself...just follow the instructions) Set-up will only take you around 5-10mins.

After... goto www.phpbb.com, download the phpbb software, i think it's in v2.06d then extract it to the "www"(it should be placed inside this) folder of the installed "phpdev" you previously downloaded. then open your favorite browser then type:
(by default)
http://localhost/phpbb2 (not sure but most probably this one or
http://localhost/phpbb/phpbb2/(just check the folder where you extracted it.. sorry!Ü)

It will show an installation screen, install it and give the required fields. If asked for a database name, just fill in anything you like. (you can check your databases by typing http://localhost/phpmyadmin/ ...it is a third party database manager bundled with phpdev)

If you've done that rightly, a new page will show saying "make sure you deleted install and blahblah folder"... after that, you're on your way to PHPBBing!! Grab your favorite HTML editor(i recommend MMDreamweaverMX2004)

To test if your private board is working, enter url as http://localhost/phpbb2 (or your phpbb installation folder) again. You've deleted the install folder and the other one(which i cannot recall 'cause i deleted it already.. Ü) so it won't show the installation page again.. if it did.. it's either you have not installed it correctly or did not delete the folders indicated. Else, it should work. Ü

Same site. phpBB was upgraded to 2.0.7. I believe BeoR was waiting for this upgrade to start the competition ... and now the upgrade is complete.
