Well fortunately for those deserving inductees, having a championship ring isn't the main consideration when they were elected into the Hall of Fame; coz if it were, then Adam Morrison is a sure-fire Hall of Famer.
Besides, it wasn't Duncan who "gave" the ring to Robinson; Duncan "helped" Robinson, just as Robinson "helped" Duncan bag those '99 and '03 titles. In my opinion, Duncan cannot win a championship alone, just as Jordan couldn't have won those titles during the Bulls run of the 90's without Pippen and the rest of the crew. Basketball is a team sport, after all.
But Duncan proved that he can win a ring without Robinson. Robinson didn't win a ring without Duncan.
You're correct there bai. But to put it in its proper perspective: do you think Duncan could've won those 2 titles without David?
Part of the reason they were so effective was because BOTH of them are offensive threats: kinda like pick your poison - pili lang kinsa mupatay nimo.
The same is true with the '05 and '07 championship runs. We had 3 guys who can carry us on any given night so teams have to decide which player to defend the most.
Same is true with Shaq and Kobe. Both were prolific scorers and fed off from each other. And it came as no surprise that when Shaq left the lakers, Kobe was unable to win it all on his own. Remember, it took him 5 years and a lopsided trade (Kwame Brown + peanuts for a starting Center/All-Star) for Pau Gasol to even get back into the Finals; 7 years to win it all again since winning their last championship in '02. They won last year because they had the best combination of players (frontcourt and bench) which complemented each of their skills (in direct contrast to the "super-laker" team of the '03-'04 season).
Bottomline: again, in the context of how the SPURS were built over the years, no single individual in the team can claim exclusive credit to any one of those 4 championship trophies. Each one had a role to play in our grand scheme of SPURS basketball.
Jersey heist ends with probation term
By Craig Kapitan - Express-News
A former security guard for Tony Parker was ordered to serve probation Monday for stealing an autographed Michael Jordan jersey from the Spurs star's personal gym.
Christopher Carolan, 22, was arrested in June after investigators traced a Craigslist ad back to him and determined that he sold the jersey — valued at $20,000 — for $120.
He pleaded guilty to the theft charge last month in exchange for a two-year sentence, but it was up to state District Judge Maria Teresa Herr to decide Monday whether that sentence should be served on probation or in jail.
Carolan, who didn't have a felony record prior to the plea agreements, also was ordered to serve five-years probation for an unrelated burglary of a habitation conviction.
A former employee of Price Protective Services, Carolan had been assigned to look over Parker's Anaqua Springs Ranch estate when the jersey went missing.
Ian Mahinmi to Stay with Les Bleus
Ian Mahinmi scored 12 points in 12 minutes and provided the French National Team with solid defense in their loss against Finland. His performance impressed Coach Vincent Collet, who will keep Ian Mahinmi instead of Johan Petro. This is newsworthy on a few fronts.
Ian Mahinmi was a late addition to the national team, only joining the team two weeks ago. And just last week Coach Collet speculated that the Spurs big man may not stick. In the space of a mere 12 minutes–his first 12 of actual game time–Mahinmi blew that talk up.
Chalk it up as another step forward for Ian Mahinmi, who continues to make strides in a return from injury. Playing high level international basketball for the balance of the offseason is precisely the sort of preparation Mahinmi needed prior to Spurs camp.
And I bet the Spurs’ brass is elated that Mahinmi continues to show progression from injury to strong summer league play to productive EuroBasket minutes. The next step forward for Mahinmi is to solidify a spot in the national team rotation. Baby steps.
We’ll keep you posted.
