antibiotics can be beneficial to us in that they kill unwanted visitors that invade our bodies.Â* as i have been informed by my doctor, when you are given a dosage, you must follow the instructions on when to take and how long to take the antibiotics to the letter.Â* the logic behind that is to prevent the "invader" from becoming tolerant to the antibiotic due to underdosage or not completing the timeframe for taking the medicine.
i'm not too sure what the effects of overdosage for antibiotics would be but i would never go over or go under the recommended dosage of any medicine that i'm taking.
patay...
antibiotic overuse or inappropriate use of antibiotics can cause intestinal disorders (such as diarrhea caused by Clostridium difficile) or promote growth of yeast/fungus (take for example candidiasis in women) since other than killing harmful bacteria, normal flora of the body (or resident bacteria/beneficial bacteria) are also being killed by these substances.
disturbing the balance between these two populations causes overgrowth of yeast/fungi and also allowing other harmful bacteria to thrive (which shud be normally suppressed if beneficial bacteria were present in appropriate numbers).
but the most alarming thing about antibiotic overuse are mutations in the bacterial genome which causes resistance to drugs. Bacteria somehow "learn" to off-set the effects of these drugs, and eventually wud lead to them being antibiotic-resistant. making it harder to treat the diseases they cause.
if you dont follow doctor's prescription the bacteria in your body becomes resistant to the antibiotic that u used, so the next time you get an infection your doctor has to prescribe more powerful more expensive and more harmful(to you) antibiotics...youl also get superinfections! your noraml flora, which are the normal bacteria in your body also get wiped out, since they compete with pathogens for nutrients a decrease in your normal flora would also less competition from them, thus growth of the pathogens...some antiobiotics are also so powerful they can harm you too such as Chloramphenicol which can cause Aplastic Anemia they would also cause some bacteria to mutate into super bacteria that cant be killed by majority of the common antibiotics
heres an example ofÂ* mutant super bacteria:
Sample A : normal bacteria(Pseudmonas aeruginosa) on an antibiotic sensitivity plate notice the circles are big around the white discs, which are impregnated witha specific antibiotic, which means they cant grow due to the efects of the antibiotic.

sample b: Super bacteria , if you notice they can grow around the white discs, meaning they are not affected by the antibiotic in this case its resistant to all antibiotics....luoy kaayu ang patient nga asa namo ni na isolate.....the lone antibiotic that has an area of no growth(clear halo) is still not effective coz its diameter is less than the standard

both bacteria shown are Psuedomonas aeruginosa, a bacteria that is very capable of mutation due to antibiotic abuse, they form a green pigment(pyoverdin), thats why you see green growth around the sensi disc
