Ultra stampede victims' kin want 'Wowowee' off the air


FAMILIES of victims in the Philsports Arena (formerly Ultra) stampede on Feb. 4 want to stop the game show "Wowowee" from being shown on television so soon after the tragedy.

They sent a letter on Wednesday to the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) asking it to stop ABS-CBN from airing the show as they were still grieving the loss of loved ones and surviving victims were still recovering from injuries.

"The re-airing of 'Wowowee' (at this time) is the height of callousness and insensitivity," they said in their letter to Ronald Olivar Solis, NTC commissioner.

The survivors also asked the NTC to prevent Willie Revillame from hosting the show. Revillame was among those found liable by the National Bureau of Investigation for the stampede that killed 71 people and injured hundreds. The return of the game show on Saturday reportedly came as a shock to the victims.

Watching it again, they said, reminded them of the horrors of being trampled underfoot during the stampede. The victims wanted to join the show's first anniversary celebration. "We, the relatives of those who died and were injured in the stampede, were deeply hurt and insulted by the move of ABS-CBN Management," they said in the letter.

This just shows how powerful TV's influence to Filipinos. I still hate noontime shows for promoting song and dance craze that projects sexual innuendos - remember otcho-otcho and spagetti.
wowowee never grown up by keeping the writer of those songs and promoting bomtarattarat. The song is catchy but its moves again is borderline between malicious and not so wholesome.
The host may be a generous man (sori mom f i disagree with u) but it seemed forced upon him because of his misdemeanors (from tactless comments about women to the feb06 tragedy to child abuse). I don't find him fitting as a role model to my kids.
Balikbayans are shown giving him dollars- for the purpose that it be given away to the poor contestants. It seems like a form of exploitation of the masses just to get higher ratings. It is no longer entertainment for me.
Pardon my opinion above and sounding so self-righteous. but I wish there were something good i found in that show. Unfortunately I cannot find any.
Is it worth watching? For me not.
