1. arimasu /aru -an inanimate thing exists, kuno ni gamiton.
2. imasu / iru -an animate thing exists....
3. ni -a particle w/c indicates the location where someone or something exists. ( in; at ; on )

ex. ee, ima boku (wa) uchi ni imasu ....

Yep, you use ni because location man. if you acknowledge the existence of an object, then you definetely use ga. Like:

Niwa de neko ga imasu. (There is a cat in the garden)
