Richard Gutierrez prepares for ‘Captain Barbel’ role
Sat Mar 11, 2006
Richard Gutierrez finally gets confirmation that he will be playing "Captain Barbel" in the GMA–7 series starting this April.
"I’m really excited to play the role of ‘Captain Barbel," Richard told the Manila Bulletin during last Wednesday’s press invitation at Imperial Palace, Morato to promote the upcoming celebrity bazaar fund-drive for Leyte landslide victims where he himself will be participating.
The star of the high-rating "Sugo" who will be playing Philippine fiction’s equivalent to "Superman" and "Captain America" as the popular character off Mar Ravelos’ creative imagination, is expected to sign a contract in a few days to officially seal the deal that would give him the right to wear the suit bearing the ‘CB’ initials. The shoot starts next month and will soon become part of GMA7’s Telebabad.
But first, Richard needs to diet? "Yes, I’ve gained a little weight coming off my vacation with my brother Raymond in Bangkok and Sydney. All we did was shop and eat a lot there."
To prepare for "Captain Barbel," "Magwo-work out ako specially para dito. Sobrang privileged ako na I’ll play this role."
The role of "Captain Barbel" had become coveted, following the success of "Darna," with on–screen sweetheart Angel Locsin having played the title role with power and charm that televiewers came to love. Richard and Angel’s tandem was the loveteam behind the successful "Let The Love Begin" movie and talks have circulated that Angel’s leading man was the best choice to play the role of "Darna’s" male counterpart than Oyo Boy Sotto who was suposedly considered for the role.
Not so many have acted for the character of "Captain Barbel," with only Edu Manzano opposite Herbert Bautista who played the hero’s mortal alterego Enteng, come to mind if current generation is asked.
"Sana magustuhan ako ng viewers as Captain Barbel. It will be a tough role pero gagawin ko ang lahat to deliver my best," Richard assured.
Meanwhile, Richard will be busy helping his sister Ruffa Gutierrez who is mounting a bazaar for the benefit of the landslide victims in Leyte. "I’m so proud of my Ate. When I heard that she thought about this project, I couldn’t help but felt ang galing niya. Gaya nga ng sabi nila, it took someone from Turkey pa to realize that the industry needs to do its part for the tragedy."
The fundraising event to be participated by the country’s biggest stars on March 18 at the Market! Market!, Global City, featuring celebrities such as Gary Valenciano, Kuh Ledesma, Richard Gomez, Sharon Cuneta, and Gretchen Barretto, among others.

Anyways, Im not interested in this show.
