From my vantage point, the more interesting thing to watch out for is how companies like Z Corp will react to this. Will they see it as a threat? Will they now be forced to make cheaper 3D printers/rapid prototypers?

Nonetheless, RepRap seems to be poised to revolutionize this industry.

It's not just the 3D Prototyping industry that's going to greatly affected by this one. Even the smallest things, like the plastic stuff we have at home will greatly affect it. From a third-person view, the best thing reprap can do in life is when a reprap machine works like a household machine. Imagine every house has a reprap machine due to its revolutionary philosophy.

If grandma loses her spatula for cooking, I can use the reprap machine to make one, thus eliminating the need to go into supermarket or even eliminating the need to be reliant on utensil makers. The only problem with reprap is that it relies a lot on plastic molding. Plastic is a dangerous waste to earth if disposed irresponsibly.

And yes, companies like Z Corp is more likely going to treat reprap as a threat to their business.

A lowly dot-matrix printer, in a certain sense, is already a robot. You send it commands, and it does what it is told by arrranging dots to form letters. So, just like a C&C machine, the RepRap is a "primitive" sort of robot.
