I didn't really like ROTC. They didn't teach us anything useful, just how to march and fall in line. Man, we would have been easy targets. The fun there was everybody making fun of the officers and the situation. I remember after three hours baking in the sun, someone said "Bro pila ta diri?" "Mga 5 ka platoon so mga tulo ka battalion." "Ilan ba ang mga officers?" "Twenty lang" "Outnumbered sila. Revolt ta bai!"

I know the country couldn't afford a more comprehensive and intensive civilian military training like they have in Korea, Germany, and Singapore where young males must serve two years of military service with a stipend. But at least teach the cadets more than marching military exercises..

Tapos imagine we had this Midterm Exams nga daghan kaayo ug mga sayop nga iningles and the question if I remembered it right was something like below:

1.) Who is the president of the Philippines? a.) Donald Duck b.) Joseph Estrada c.) Mickey Mouse d.) Bill Clinton
katawa mani nga question. Is this how stupid those high rank officers in making questions like this for the exams? Hahay... naapil pa si donald duck. mga duck siguro ang mga high ranks.

    Hahahaha! Alegreha!

Also depende pud sa ROTC unit. In our case sa MSU-IIT ROTC Unit, every cadet must know how to read maps and field strip the M-16. Otherwise, patay mi sa tactical inspection.

Sa amoa, kanang nag arong-ingnon na naay hatag ug abuloy kay namatyan na ang parents or relatives, our commandant says ayaw hatag ug abuloy kung walay dala ug death certificate.

But of course, it's in MSU-IIT ROTC unit. I dunno for the other units.

What I am trying to say is this: not all Tactical Officers and Commandants are corrupt.

    -------

    For those who don't know:

    1. MSU-IIT = Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology.

good day peps..abi ninyo corruption can be avoided kung naa lang disciplina ang tanan..what I want to say is..ROTC can instill discipline to us..I was an ROTC officer before..for the whole 4 years Ive been a good officer to my cadets, but when I learned that my superiors are trying to do some monkey business, I quit..but I never forget all the good things I learned. Siguro ilisan nalang ang ROTC ug mandatory service. Just like other countries like USA or maski diri sa taiwan, wherein as soon as the student reach the age of 18 , they are mandated to serve the Armed Forces, any branch of service, ( actual training for 6 months to 1 year ) withpay. After that , they will have a prerogative to continue sa pagkamilitary or continue their studies ..at least naa sure job ang kadtong dili makapadayon sa ila study..Unsay tan-aw ninyo?
