As I read intently your thesis and your examples, it seems that you're not asking for the existence of self-sacrifice itself but questioning the underlying intent or motive thereof which voids the whole act of self-sacrifice as another or a grander version of a quid pro quo -- "i'll scratch your back, you scratch mine" sort of thing.

Any action (including self-sacrifice) comes with it the intent to carry out its goal no matter how absurd or noble those goals are and as to whether or not the goals could even be accomplished. It is meaningless or at the very least contrary to reason to induce oneself to self-sacrifice without any goals at all.
