Order priests take a vow of poverty, and usually may own nothing personal, even their clothing is considered to belong to the order, and if they receive gifts, technically they belong to the order, although usually they are permitted to keep and use appropriate personal articles like toiletries, pens, books etc. They generally live in a residence provided by the order and are given an allowance for expenses such as gasoline or whatever is required if their work takes them outside. Are you saying Diocesan Priests don't know that? Wrong LOGIC!
You should have specified what kind of priests dont know that and BTW, ALL PRIESTS know that ALL DIOCESAN PRIESTS receive salary. Are you aware of that?

Maybe carmicaeld, you're referring to donations such as baptism, specials mass in your house, blessings and the rest. I;m sure that it is customary to give the priest something for himself on these occasions to supplement his "allowances" - which they have to claim back from the bishop.
