Default disadvantage with high HDD capacity?

    mga sirs/ma'ams

naa ba disadvantage if dako kaau ang capacity sa imo hard disk (ex: several TBs, or 1.5 and up)..? mas hinay ba ang access sa mga files ana?

and BTW, if u do defragmentation or scan for viruses, dli ba na apilon og defrag/scan for viruses ang free space sa drive? (like 4 exampl, u only used 5gb of ur 1.5tb, so kato ra 5GB iya eprocess?)

    thanks

I have several 1TB HDs ... and there is no noticeable change of speed compared to lower capacity HDs I own.

defrag and scanning for viruses are different things.
you can't scan a free space or even defrag it.

    defragmentation wiki:
defragmentation is a process that reduces the amount of fragmentation in file systems. It does this by physically organizing the contents of the disk to store the pieces of each file close together and contiguously. It also attempts to create larger regions of free space using compaction to impede the return of fragmentation. Some defragmenters also try to keep smaller files within a single directory together, as they are often accessed in sequence.

murag dako ra kaau 1.5TB bro...pero pede man nimo na ipartition para safe...ilahi nimo og partition ang para sa system og para sa lain data...para if ever naa problems, isolated lng sa usa ka partition so di maapektuhan ang uban...

large capacity HDD tend to be slower sa accessing ug files. this is due to the fact that the HDD had to look through the whole of HDD to check asa nabutang ang data. though not really noticeable, but there is. if u have to use larger capacity HDD, always try to check RPM speed, 7.5k, 10k. and check for cache amount (though others believe this doesnt help). but only 500 up HDD have those cache though.

next to check is its connection to ur component. use SATA2 if possible.

last to check, ure southbridge chipset. on the side of benchmarking and technical people, this matters.

defrag n scan = only for files, means only utilized areas. for free space, it means "wiping", which literally means preparing ure HDD (again)for possible data accomodation...

partitioning your hdd will not help if the drive will fail itself

    i agree with reishoto

naa bro, pero ni-compensate sila sa speed sa HDD to look for data by better RPM, and putting up a cache. technical man gud kaayo i-explain. mao gani ang uban, sa top gaming scenario, they are only using 80, 160, max of 250GB for faster file access.

if imo na i-partition, it is still actually one disk, one physical disk. actually, makapahinay pa gani ang partitioning sa HDD sa overall speed sa pag access sa imong files.

i should have stated things clearer i was referring to data corruption when i said its better to partition (e.g. OS crashed and the like)...partitioning is useless if the hardware breaks...
