Pero nanghinayang gihapon ko sa Pinas kron, sauna kita kay usa sa mga nagpadal ug mga pinkadagko nga contingents sa Cold War. I think the Phils sent about 7000 soldiers to korea under the banner of the United Nations.

I'm glad that the US tries to do the right thing, at least. I remember being in my high school library, reading a copy of Newsweek and looking at horrible pictures of dead bodies strewn all across the roads in Rwanda. It was hard to believe that at this day and age, things like that still happen. How was it possible that Newsweek had pictures of these atrocities, and no one did anything? The UN was all but impotent, explaining the lack of action to "internal conflict that they had no jurisdiction over".
That's what happens when good people just stand by and do nothing.
Just one OT point to bring up re the above post.
In fairness to the United States, they were not technically at war with Germany and the Axis powers at the time. They did not declare war on the Axis until after Pearl Harbor in Dec 1941 while the BoB happened in 1940.
Even though the US Army Air Corps did not take part directly in the Battle of Britain, there were American volunteer pilots who flew for Britain in units called Eagle Squadrons. However, these became operational only after the Battle of Britain.
Ok! my timeline was just ruined............... let's just focus on today, we're talking about the past wars of the philippines? (I have no idea of what I'm saying) Well there's just a big threat to the Philippines today and that's what we may discuss. It's not the rebels, it's just the new rising Global Power.
I think the Philippines will benefit so much with the current wrestle of U.S and China to influence the country. Both are offering generous opportunities for the Philippines. The U.S gave us military aid, China has given us sweet economic assistance deals and military aids (although not as much as the U.S gave). I think it will be very important for the two nations who aims to have dominance over Asia to gain access to the Philippine Territory. Having operational bases in the Philippines will give one of them a big advantage. The Philippines is the crossroads of Asia, access of it's territory will allow them to secure the most crucial sea lanes in Asia. I don't know what are the other reasons but I really am anticipating on what's gonna happen next!
So what's going to happen next in your opinion? Because you've raised a valid point in China being a major power very soon, even militarily. As to what they want to do with all that military might is still a question. They are projected to have a blue-water navy (including aircraft carriers) by the next decade. The rise of China as a regional (and soon global) military power is why the US takes an interest in maintaining a presence in the region.
Ang kuyaw lang sa China, kung tanan insik magdungan ug pangihi, lumos tanan Pilipino.

Definition: "Opportunistic" means taking immediate advantage, often unethically, of any circumstance of possible benefit.
Gosh, I'm really not sure why your posting made me think of those two terms... But it did.
hehehe! daghana rabag sakit sa China... Patay gyud ta klaro kung maihi-an ta!
South Korea says NKorea may fire more missiles
07/03/2009
SEOUL, South Korea — South Korea said Friday it is closely monitoring North Korean military sites because it the communist nation may fire more missiles, amid speculation that a long-range test launch aimed toward the US is possible in coming days.
The North fired four short-range missiles off its east coast Thursday, just ahead of the US Independence Day holiday that falls this weekend. The US and Japan called the North's move "provocative."
In 2006, North Korea launched its most advanced Taepodong 2 missile while the US celebrated July Fourth, though the rocket broke apart shortly after takeoff and fell into the ocean.
"We are keeping a close watch on North Korea as it may fire more missiles," said an official at South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff, adding its no-sail zone remains in effect in waters off its east coast through July 10. The North last month announced a no-sail zone off its east coast through that date for military drills.
