The Office of the Ombudsman was bombed Sunday morning, but an official said this would not cow the agency’s investigators into going slow on pending corruption cases.
The explosion was so strong it damaged the agency’s water treatment plant, some windows on the second floor, as well as the employees’ shuttle service, Assistant Ombudsman Mark E. Jalandoni said.
No one was reported injured in the blast.
“If the intention of those responsible for today’s explosion as well as those sending death threats to our investigators is for us to slow down in our investigation, they are mistaken,” Jalandoni said in a statement on Sunday.
“We will not shirk from our responsibility of prosecuting and investigating cases pending before our office,” he added.
Jalandoni said initial police investigation showed that two unidentified men alighted from a vehicle and threw the explosive device, which detonated inside the compound in Quezon City, at around 5 a.m. Sunday.
