can we really shut down the virtual mem in winxp?

guys, ga-experiment ko sa virtual mem settings ng akong pc. karon, set nako sa "no paging file" ang pc ko. then i played NFSMW for 3 hours straight while downloading a game and movie via bitcomet.

processed run with "no paging file"

- as u can see, i set the pagefile here to 0.

- then, this is my task manager with nfsmw minimized on startbar. and those processes in systray.


correct me if im wrong with anything here. what i dont really understand is that my paging file had been set to "0" but still, when i take a look at the task manager, i still displays the page file. but when i defragmented the hard drive, the green colored area for the pagefile is no longer there.

by the way, i only have 768mb of mem installed.

your paging file was removed from the hdd...
so meaning wala nakay paging sa imong hdd..

ang page files kay naa na sa imong memory.

paging was develop para kung gamay ang main memory sa imong system adto niya ibutang sa hdd.
since dako ang ang imong main memory (RAM) adto niya gibutang.

i saw some windows tweaks that completely disables Paging File and forces windows to use the main memory....

well as far as i know... windows will manage to page files if youre running out of system memory (ram).

ive proven that its not advisable to shut down this virtual memory thing when u just have 768mb of main memory, or even 1gb. i tried it just now.

ga-test ko sa pc ng akong frend. amd64 3000+ with 256mb geforce 6600, and 1gb of mem ang iyahang pc. we turned paging file off and tested running battlefield 2. the game loaded fast, but when in the game proper, where u can start shooting people, the game just shut down and there was this icon in systray that says the pc has no more virtual memory.

maybe if 3gb or more na mem, pwede na tingali off tong paging file. based on experienced, pwede man, kuha man nako sa 768mb na way paging file, as long as lite apps. if sa heavy, like battlefield2 or some video editing softwares, dili advisable.

nisuway ko ani 512MB ra ang RAM (1 card only), kusog kaayo mo init ang memory compared sa mo gamit ug pagefile. mas maayo tingali at least 1GB ang RAM kung mag set ug 0 pagefile.

even with 4GB of ram dli advisable e shutdown ang pagefile as some games/apps are desgined to store some data sa pagefile.

microsoft also recommend NOT TO shut off Virtual memory / paging files.

ibalik lang nya ni nako kung naa nay problema. so far ok pa nga way swap file.
