i have this procie right now. I dissagree with the notions that this is not ideal for a gaming rig. This is essentially an E8400 but better binned and lower TDP as poldo mentioned above. I dont see any issues having used this for gaming at all.
These are the components i use:
Biostar I45, Xeon E3110, Palit 4870, Corsair RAM, HEC 550W PSU and the system flies - literally
CPU-Z Validator 3.0
