Keyboard & Mouse Problem

keyboard/mouse: Logitech Internet Desktop Pro Black (PS/2)
power supply: 450 watts (pre-installed)

Im building a new computer and assembling all the new stuffs that i brought. Everything works fine, except the keyboard and mouse issue. Here's the problem...

After a couple of secs or minutes, depending how long the system have been shutdown. The keyboard and mouse freezes. Even in BIOS i notice the keyboard will freezes in secs. or minutes. And sometimes it can't even detect the keyboard at all at start-up.

My conclusions is that its kinda grounded, i disassembled everything and layed out the motherboard on a cardboard attached all the wires and everything that is needed... System went fine, i even waited like 30mins run 3dmark and problem never occured again. But at a time i put all things back together inside the casing, the same problem occured again.

it still works using USB keyboard/mouse, i already tried it. keyboard/mouse is really unstable im luckily i made it far to complete the Windows XP SP2 installation and drivers.

-Can it be grounded to the casing?
-At first i thought problem is the motherboard itself,
but how come it work fine when i layed it all without the case?
-Can the fron panel I/O connectors be responsible?
-Is the plate that comes with the motherboard to be attached
in the casing can be grounded?
-How can i find/trace the problem for this?

weird... hmm.... it cud be the kb/mouse port in the motherboard is shorted in the casing... try lang butang ug foam between your MOBO and casing..

Isolate more lang bro that wud lead you in finding the answers jud on what's causing the problem of your pc. :mrgreen:

lagi bro, still have to find out and have more tests. i don't like to point the problem directly to the motherboard for now. id try to disassemble everything again, when i have time when i get home. too busy from work. how about kanang plate sa videocard na i attach/screw nimo sa casing, medyo taas man mo touch sa motherboard medyo. mo conduct bana bay. i should have brought a larger casing ga guot jud.

kanang imo I/O shield sa mobo basig naka prevent na nga masaksak nimo ug tarung ang keybord ug mouse kay nganu man ug wala sa case ang mobo ok man?

ok raman bay, dako naman ang lungag sa I/O shield. masud raman ug tarung. by weekend na nako ni cya ma surgery nasad. busy pako work. no time na pag abut balay. inform talang nya mo.

bai try to put an insulator basin grounded na imo mobo, try to put dishwasher red color gani na kasagaran, or put a masking tape to your casing kanang butanganan sa mobo nimo


possible cause ana bai ground rna, nya f u hav modem put it to the last slot of ur pci

Try to check also some extra metal in your IO plate attaching to your mainboard cause sometimes for ground.

Okay i've done the pc surgery again, remove all the things inside the casing and layed it all on the cardboard, this time it gotten worst. keyboard and mouse won't detect at all. so i decided to blame the motherboard and went to the computer shop where i bought it. i got the motherboard with memory & processor attached, videocard, and the harddisk.... only to find out that everything was working well, including the PS/2 port!. When i got back, they're even playing with it on NFS Most Wanted (i think). Now what did i missed? now i'm blaming the power supply, cause its the only thing that were left and untested. as i'm typing this post now, im using my Logitec Internet Pro Desktop Black, Keyboard & Mouse PS/2 in the office with no problems at all!

There's nothing left to be blame but the power supply...Is it possible for it to cause such erratic/unstable connection for PS/2 port alone? I also notice it during ive done the surgery, after the keyboard and mouse hanged up, i heard a tiny clicking inside the PSU then the entire system shut down itself, but i didn't mind that. But for now its probably the cause. This is a generic 450 watts that is included in the casing that i bought. Are there warranties on casing w/ PSU nowadays?

Hard Drive: Seagate 80g 7200 Barracuda
Video: Inno3d Nvidia 6600 PCIe

So what do you think guys? Get a new PSU or demand for its warranty.
